@github-actions github-actions released this 24 Oct 03:28

This is a beta for testing. Copies of the normal version don't update to it. Install it from this page; it then updates itself to the next betas and to the release.

Download

  • PoE-Upgrade-Checker-Setup-0.5.0-beta.4.exe: installs for your user (no admin) and updates itself. Recommended.
  • PoE-Upgrade-Checker-Portable-0.5.0-beta.4.exe: no install, no auto-update.

Windows may say the app is unrecognised (it isn't code-signed): click More info → Run anyway. In the game, use Windowed Fullscreen.

Linux (experimental): PoE-Upgrade-Checker.AppImage for the game under Steam/Proton. chmod +x it and run it; it updates itself in place. See the README's Linux section.

What's new

  • PoE1 3.29: the map check knows Thorns (rare monsters with Physical or Elemental Thorns, which replaced reflect) and checks them against your main skill. Socket colours aren't checked any more, since any gem now fits any socket.
  • Path of Building's score is shown as points ("+6.3 pts for your build") instead of a %: it was never a plain percentage (damage and effective HP changes, weighted, plus half a point per resistance point toward your cap), and the tooltip says so.
  • Clearer for PoE1: no gear-score wording or profiles in PoE1 (My gear, Build & stats, the first-run guide), PoE1 items without a Path of Building build say NOT JUDGED instead of "empty slot", and maps without a build say NOT CHECKED instead of "looks fine".
  • When poe.ninja can't be reached the price card says so, instead of "no price".
  • Rare resistance drops are flagged when the app doesn't know your resistance totals (UPGRADE, BUT… with a note to type them in).
  • Keep, sell or vendor: under the verdict, one plain answer: KEEP (an upgrade for you), SELL (not an upgrade but worth something, from poe.ninja or your own What's it worth?), VENDOR, or PRICE CHECK for a rare with no price yet.
  • Build-value alerts: on Where to spend, Alert me… on any slot: "tell me when a new Gloves listing is +10% for my build under 2 div". New listings are checked with your build and only the ones that clear it are notified.
  • Price history: the price card draws poe.ninja's last 7 days, and uniques get a small line next to their price.
  • Faster prices and Where to spend: every poe.ninja list for a game comes in one request (gathered by poe2upgrade.com's cache); Where to spend shows each slot as soon as it's searched and keeps its answer for 30 minutes; listing fetches slow down by themselves near the trade site's limit; Path of Building starts in the background when the app opens, so the first check is quicker.
  • PoE1: flasks and tinctures are judged by Path of Building in your flask slots (compared with the same flask, else the same kind), and a life or mana flask that recovers clearly more (or less) than yours says so in its verdict. A third ring slot (The Unseen Hand) is tried when your build has one, and Limited-to jewels you already have are only compared with themselves.
  • First-run guide asks your game and league (Standard included).
  • Get beta versions (Settings → Updates): try new features early.
  • Anonymous usage statistics: a random install number, the app version, Windows or Linux and which game you used that day, sent to poe2upgrade.com a few times a day, so we know how many people use the app. No account, items or builds; no IP addresses kept. Off with Settings → Send anonymous usage statistics.
  • release.bat warns when a newer Path of Building is out than the one the app ships.
  • The league is shown in the popup ("League: Standard · change"), so you can see at a glance which league searches and prices are for. Each game keeps its own, Standard included; change opens the league choice.
  • Where to spend (new page): every slot searched in your price range and checked with your build, ranked by how much better your build gets per divine, with the biggest gain for each slot too. When your resistances are short, it also tries pairs of the listings it found together in Path of Building and shows the ones that cap them. In PoE2 without a Path of Building build it ranks by gear score points per divine.
  • Map and waystone check: F2 on a map or waystone shows DANGER / CAREFUL / LOOKS FINE for your build. Player mods (less maximum resistances, less armour, curses, reduced block…) are worked out by Path of Building for your character; monster mods are checked against what your build does (reflect against your main skill's damage types, no leech, no regeneration); and clicking a mod marks it dangerous, careful or fine for that game.
  • Prices for everything: F2 on currency, fragments, essences, runes, omens, divination cards, gems, maps and the like shows its poe.ninja price (each and for the stack) with the 7-day trend. Uniques get poe.ninja's price next to the verdict (5- and 6-links priced as such).
  • Choose stats… for What's it worth?: tick exactly which of the item's stats to match, and their minimums, right in the popup.
  • Loot filter from your build (My gear): rares on the bases you wear, and identified rares with two or more of the top-tier mods Path of Building values most for each slot, saved as a copy of your filter with that section in front (made again, it replaces its own section).
  • Wiki and poedb links in the popup.
  • poe.ninja through poe2upgrade.com: poe.ninja asks desktop tools not to call it from every player's PC, so prices now come through a small cache on the app's website (straight from poe.ninja if that's down). The app also tells the sites who it is (an identifiable User-Agent with a contact address), as GGG and poe.ninja ask.
  • PoE1 is marked as a beta in the popup, the results window, the character list and the tray while you play it.
  • Betas for testing: release-beta.bat publishes a test version as a GitHub pre-release; normal installs don't update to it.
  • Playing both games, made sturdier (a full review of PoE1 support):
    • Changing game mid-way can't mix them up any more. A search or price check keeps the game it started in; if you press F2 in the other game halfway through, it stops instead of sending one game's league and stats to the other game's site. The Find upgrades page reloads that game's leagues, stats, budget and copied items, an open results window from the other game steps aside (and is never re-judged against the wrong character), and the other game's Path of Building is stopped whenever you change character.
    • A plain Ctrl+C never switches your character by itself: when the item could be from either game, it's judged for the character you have open. A fresh install that's only used for PoE1 turns its empty first character into the PoE1 one instead of keeping a useless extra.
    • Each game keeps its own priorities (chaos resistance counts by default in PoE1) and auto-rate setting; a new PoE2 character no longer inherits PoE1's "no gear score".
    • PoE1 verdicts: an item with fewer links than the gems you use in that slot is flagged ("It has a 4-link: your … use 6 linked gems"); a bow takes your shield off (a quiver stays); a quiver without a bow is flagged; running out of mana or life for your auras counts like Spirit. Cluster and timeless jewels say NOT JUDGED instead of a made-up verdict, and so do PoE1 items while no Path of Building build is loaded. Jewels are no longer judged as if they replaced a cluster jewel.
    • PoE1 builds: builds with a timeless jewel load (the jewel is left out, and the app says so); a build made with a newer Path of Building says the app's needs updating rather than telling you to update your build; a build without gear gives an error without making a new character; imported weapons get their real type (two-handed axes, rapiers, rune daggers…); flasks aren't imported as PoE2's life and mana flask.
    • PoE1 trade: price checks match 5- and 6-links, influences, fractured and synthesised bases; bench-crafted mods aren't required (the buyer can craft them); budgets count every currency in chaos the way the PoE1 site does, so a divine budget also finds chaos-priced items; PoE1 item types (rapiers, rune daggers, warstaves, abyss jewels, flasks) and Ward search correctly; abyss jewel upgrades search abyss jewels; enchants are matched; prices in other currencies (exalts, alchs…) show what they come to in chaos; currency names from poe.ninja's older API match the trade site's.
    • Leagues are checked every hour, so a new league is picked up on launch day; private leagues are kept. An answer from poe.ninja with almost no currencies no longer replaces your saved rates.
    • Alerts run for both games, using each game's own rates; clicking one from the other game opens the trade site.
    • Clearer wording: the tray and character list say which game a character is for; PoE1 sees mana/life reservation, chaos, flasks and "Path of Exile" where it used to see Spirit, exalts, charms and "PoE2"; a damaged settings file can no longer stop the app from starting.
  • New name: PoE Upgrade Checker (was PoE2 Upgrade Checker), now that it does PoE1 too. It's the same app: it updates itself to the new name, and your characters, builds, settings and log stay where they were. The installer and downloads are now PoE-Upgrade-Checker-…. A Linux AppImage you already have keeps its file name.
  • Getting ready for Path of Exile 1 (step 1 of PoE1 support). The app now knows which game you're in on every F2: from the game window (its title on Windows, its Steam app id under Proton on Linux), or from the item text when you copy with Ctrl+C yourself. F2 in PoE1 says PoE1 support is being built instead of judging a PoE1 item against your PoE2 gear. Characters now belong to a game (your existing ones are PoE2), the app keeps the character you last used in each game and switches to it by itself when you change game, and the character picker groups them by game once...

Characters now belong to a game (your existing ones are PoE2), the app keeps the character you last used in each game and switches to it by itself when you change game, and the character picker groups them by game once you have both. Nothing changes for PoE2. The plan is in docs/POE1-SUPPORT.md.
  • Path of Exile 1 support (beta). F2 now works in PoE1 too:
    • Your PoE1 character: the first F2 in PoE1 makes one; import your Path of Building Community build on My gear (a PoE1 build imported while a PoE2 character is open goes into a new PoE1 character). The app switches between your PoE1 and PoE2 characters by itself as you change game.
    • Verdicts by Path of Building for PoE1: the same UPGRADE / LOSES RESISTANCE / LOSES DAMAGE verdicts, from your whole build. The Character page shows mana and life reservation instead of Spirit.
    • Item text: PoE1's sockets and links, influences, Searing Exarch / Eater of Worlds implicits, Synthesised, Fractured, Veiled, crafted, enchant and scourge mods, abyss and cluster jewels, flasks, talismans and every PoE1 weapon class, in both the plain and the advanced copy.
    • Trade: Find upgrades (Path of Building's own weighted search), What's it worth? and saved searches use the PoE1 trade site, with prices in chaos and divines from poe.ninja's PoE1 rates.
    • Each game keeps its own league, price range, rates, search sizes and saved searches; alerts for the other game wait until you play it.
    • Not yet: cluster and timeless jewels aren't judged, flasks aren't judged, and Craftable bases is PoE2 only. PoE1 items have no gear score.
  • PoE1 support, step 2: Path of Building for PoE1 comes with the app. Path of Building Community 2.67.2 (PoE1) is bundled next to Path of Building 2, trimmed to what the calculations need (about 47 MB: the 3.28 and 3.29 passive trees, no images or timeless jewel data). It runs in the same engine host, and the app keeps one engine per game, stopping the other game's when you switch. Tested on PoB's own PoE1 builds: loading, the character sheet, judging rings and jewels (including abyss sockets), and PoB's weighted trade search for the PoE1 trade site. A build made on an older passive tree is moved to the newest one, with a note that this can drop passives. Not used for verdicts yet: that comes with PoE1 item text and trade search (steps 3 and 4).
  • Fixed: when Path of Building couldn't read a build, its own error message was never shown (the app looked for it in the wrong place). Now you see it, e.g. "trying to close with 'Bild'".

What's new

  • Price checks you can trust. What's it worth? used to take the cheapest listings at face value, so a few price-fixing baits at 1 ex, or one seller listing seven copies, set the price. Now it takes each seller's cheapest listing, leaves out baits far under the rest and listings over 14 days old, and gives the typical price with a range ("Worth about 1.2 div (most 1.1 – 1.3 div)"). It compares like with like: same rarity, same corrupted state, every stat at first and at most one missing after that, and always instant-buyout/in-person listings (your status setting is for upgrade searches). It reads 40 listings instead of 20 and updates as you load more. It says what makes the price uncertain – "only 2 listed – not enough to judge", "prices vary a lot", listings in a currency without a rate, a divine rate that's hours old or from another league – and won't give a number when too many listings can't be converted. The divine rate is fetched again when you switch league. Small prices read "0.3 ex", not "0 ex (0 div)".
  • Path of Building fixes:
    • A Path of Exile 1 build, a cut-off export code or other text is refused with a clear message instead of loading an empty character that judged everything wrong.
    • Builds set to weapon set II are judged with the weapons you actually use.
    • Crossbows and quarterstaves are judged without your offhand.
    • If your main skill in PoB deals no damage, the app says so (pick your damage skill as the main skill) instead of showing ±0% damage; an item that gives you damage where you had none now counts it.
    • Check an item on Settings now gives the same Path of Building verdict as the popup.
    • Charms and flasks no longer show "Path of Building could not read this item" (they use the gear score), and PoB's own error is shown when it has one.
    • After Path of Building failed to start, importing a build, pressing Recalculate or turning PoB back on tries again straight away (it used to wait 10 minutes); a check right after the engine went idle no longer fails.
    • Find upgrades looks for the resistances you're short of against your real cap, not always 75%.
  • Popup fixes: a late Path of Building answer for the previous item can't replace the one you're looking at; the popup's size follows the UI scale setting and never grows off the screen (it scrolls instead); More ▾ and the search message stay as they were when the popup updates; "[Base]" no longer shows in stat names.
  • Smaller fixes: a settings file that couldn't be read shows a warning at the top of the app instead of silently starting fresh; the item hotkey and the results-window hotkey can't be set to the same key; Ctrl/Alt + W/A/S/D no longer warns about movement keys; if loading listings fails, an open results window says so instead of showing the last search; the results help text explains LOSES RESISTANCE, LOSES DAMAGE and Path of Building verdicts; the Character page no longer skips an update that came in while it was drawing; the sign-in check isn't repeated on every settings change; "F2 was still held" now gets its own message on Linux.
  • From the review (settings, results, search, Linux): new-character and delete dialogs that work with the keyboard, hotkey boxes you can Tab out of and Esc to undo, trade searches that pick local vs global mods by item type, no longer require an item's downsides (e.g. −Chaos Resistance), round price limits correctly and handle multi-line mods; gear scores count downsides on stats your build wants; the Linux AppImage has a fixed file name so it keeps updating and starting at login, and the F2 helper releases held Shift/AltGr first.
  • Character page tidied up: everything is grouped into three columns – Offence, Defence, and Gear & build – instead of scattered cards.

What's new

  • A new look: Wraeclast Iron. The whole app – popup, trade results and every page – now looks like it belongs to Path of Exile 2: black and moonlit blue, carved capitals in parchment gold for names and headings, cast-iron frames with gold diamonds, verdicts struck like seals, resistance bars with a gold cap notch, and one blood-red button for the main action. Item names and mods keep the game's colours. The fonts (Cinzel, Alegreya Sans) are bundled, so it looks the same offline. The rules are in DESIGN.md.
  • Linux (experimental): an AppImage for PoE2 under Steam/Proton (or Lutris/Heroic) on desktop Linux, X11 or Wayland. Everything works as on Windows – Path of Building verdicts (bundled LuaJIT), F2 with the same safeguards (the game is brought to the front, the popup moved out of the way), trade search, alerts, the Character page – and it updates itself. Ctrl+C is sent with X11's XTest through the system's Python, so there's nothing to install; without it the app uses xdotool, or you press Ctrl+C yourself. See the README's Linux section, and please report how it works on your setup.
  • Fixed: F2 often said "No item found". Pressing F2 now works in the situations that broke it:
    • after clicking one of the app's windows (e.g. the results window over the game): the keystroke went to that window. The app now brings the game back to the front first – also when another app has focus but your mouse is over the game.
    • with the last popup under the mouse: the game saw the popup, not the item. The popup is now hidden before copying, and the mouse nudged 1 pixel so the game shows the item's tooltip again.
    • right after the app started, or after its key helper restarted: the press was dropped while the helper was starting. It now waits for it, and restarts it straight away if it stops.
    • when the game is busy: the app waits up to 1.5 s for the item text instead of half a second.
    • The automatic second Ctrl+C is gone (it never helped): one press, one Ctrl+C.
    • When nothing is copied, the popup says why – the game wasn't the active window (and which app was), the mouse wasn't over the game or was over the app's own window, the game runs as administrator, or no item was under the mouse – and the log says where the keystroke went.
  • Jewels are judged by Path of Building. A jewel is tried in every jewel socket you've allocated on your PoB tree – replacing the jewel that's there, or in an empty socket – and the best one counts, so "vs Entropy Star (Socket #2)" tells you exactly where it goes. LOSES RESISTANCE / LOSES DAMAGE work for jewels too, and a jewel already in your tree is only compared with itself. Find upgrades on a jewel uses Path of Building's own jewel search (radius jewels search as radius jewels), and every listing is judged in your sockets. The Character page lists your jewel sockets and what's in them. Before, jewels only got the rough gear score.

  • PoE2-Upgrade-Checker-Setup-0.4.1.exe: installs for your user (no admin) and updates itself. Recommended.
  • PoE2-Upgrade-Checker-Portable-0.4.1.exe: no install, no auto-update.

Windows may say the app is unrecognised (it isn't code-signed): click More info → Run anyway. In PoE2, use Windowed Fullscreen.

What's new

  • New Character page (sidebar, under My gear): your whole character as Path of Building calculates it, with the gear you copied in game – class, ascendancy, level and passive points; minion DPS, hits, crit and their defences; your effective HP, energy shield (and recharge), armour, evasion, block and thresholds; resistances against the cap with bars; the biggest hit you can take of each type; Spirit reserved and free; attributes against requirements; movement speed and charges; every skill with its supports; keystones, ascendancy and notables; and your gear with gear scores. It updates when you change gear or switch character, and Recalculate reruns it. Without a PoB build it shows your resistances and gear and says how to get the full sheet.

  • Fixed: Find upgrades on My gear seemed to do nothing. The search ran, but a minimised results window stayed in the taskbar, and the status message was at the bottom of the table. Now the results window is restored and brought to the front (moved onto your screen if it was left somewhere you can't see it), and the answer shows right under the button you clicked.

  • Never lose damage (new priority, on by default). An item that costs more than 5% of your damage – e.g. a ring that caps lightning but doesn't have your minion damage mods – is now LOSES DAMAGE with a red banner ("Minion DPS 96,826 → 77,413"), however much resistance or effective HP it adds. Before, the resistance bonus could outweigh a −20% minion DPS loss and call it an UPGRADE. These items go to the bottom of every sort, and their score and value per divine aren't shown.

  • Better for my build keeps your damage mods. Path of Building values filling a resistance very highly, so the search filled up with resistance-only items. Now every listing must also have as many of your build's damage mods as the item you wear (up to 2), and the resistances-first boost no longer outranks them. If nothing in your budget has them, the app says so and shows the best without that rule.

  • Clean-up pass before release. Fixes that mattered:

    • The damage vs survivability slider on My gear was reversed (moving it toward survivability weighted damage more).
    • Priorities and the PoB status weren't shown correctly right after launch until you opened My gear.
    • Changing build or gear quickly could leave Path of Building judging with the old build; the newest one now always wins.
    • The popup could reappear by itself when a late Path of Building result came in after you closed it.
    • PoB import: mods with negative or fractional roll ranges, runes/enchants and jewels from an inactive tree were read wrong; talismans count as two-handed; mauls/shields detected properly.
    • Conditional mods ("while…", "if you've…", "per…") weigh less on your own item too, so it isn't unfairly beaten by listings.
    • Settings can't be lost to a half-written or locked file (retries, a backup copy, and the old file kept if it can't be read).
    • No more Windows error dialogs when the key sender or PoB engine stops unexpectedly; errors go to the log.
    • Trade results' gear score line is hidden when a Path of Building verdict is shown, so there's one clear answer per item.
  • Simpler: results always open in the app window (setting removed); stat weights are only shown when your build is turned off; Priorities have their own card; the gear score is labelled as the fallback when PoB is on; each listing has one main action plus a small "on trade site ↗" link. "Options" is now "Settings" everywhere.

  • Chaos Inoculation is recognised (life 1 in your PoB build): chaos resistance is then ignored everywhere – verdicts, warnings, the resistances-first search and the gear score – and My gear says so.

  • Resistances first in trade results. The new default sort (Resistances first) puts items that cap a resistance you're short of at the top, then items that add toward the cap, and items that lose resistance at the bottom; the header counts how many cap one and how many lose one. Items that cap one get a green edge and "✓ Caps your … resistance".

  • Items that lose resistance can't be missed: their own red LOSES RESISTANCE verdict, a red banner with exactly what drops (e.g. "Lightning 75% → 38%, −37 off the cap"), and a red card border – in the popup and in trade results, with or without Path of Building.

  • Priorities on My gear. Cap my resistances first (on by default): while a resistance is under the cap, each point an item adds toward it counts +0.5% on its score (and each point lost below it costs the same), Find upgrades boosts the resistances you still need to the top of its search, and the gear score counts them double. Also: including chaos, Never run short of Spirit and Keep attribute requirements met – switch a check off and it no longer blocks an upgrade.

  • Fixed: Path of Building didn't start on Windows ("attempt to index global 'arg'"): PoB expects the command line in arg, which the Windows host didn't set.

  • Fixed: price ranges were way off (a 10 div minimum only showed items from ~27 div). The trade site's "Exalted Orb equivalent" converts divines with its own rate, far from the market's, so the app now asks for divine-priced listings in divines (and, for budgets up to 2 div, exalt-priced ones in exalts).

  • Path of Building engine: startup errors are shown instead of the app waiting 90 seconds. If PoB can't start, the log and My gear say why, and the gear score is used meanwhile. A missing lua-utf8 library no longer stops it.

  • Works for any build. The setup guide starts with your Path of Building export; damage is your Full DPS, your minions' DPS or your main skill's, whichever your build uses, and PoB's trade search raises that same number. Without PoB, importing a build picks the closest gear-score profile (minion summoner, ES caster or life + res) unless you chose one yourself; new installs default to life + res. The popup reminds you to add your PoB build when there isn't one.

  • Upgrades are now judged by Path of Building's own calculations. Paste your PoB export on My gear and every item – in the popup and in trade results – is checked against your real build: the change to your minion DPS and effective HP, resistances against the cap, Spirit and attribute requirements. A swap that drops a resistance off the cap, leaves you short of Spirit or can't be worn is never a clean UPGRADE. Uniques get a verdict too.

  • Find upgrades uses Path of Building's trade search generator (the same one as PoB's Trader): it tries every mod on your build, weights the search by what each one is worth to you, and every listing found is then checked exactly. Damage vs survivability is a slider on My gear.

  • Items you copy in game replace PoB's in the reference build, so it calculates with what you're really wearing. If PoB's resistances disagree with your character sheet, My gear says so.

  • The engine ships with the app (Path of Building 0.23.1, MIT licence); if it can't run, the gear score is used as before.

  • Fixed: "too many searches – wait 60 seconds" kept coming up. Searches now pace themselves to the trade site's own limits (read from its replies) instead of getting the app banned for a minute. A rejected search is no longer sent a second time by another route, Better for my build remembers how big a search the site accepts so it stops wasting searches on ones it rejects, and background alerts step aside while you're searching.

  • Fixed: the Sign in window closed straight away and showed "Signed in" when you weren't. pathofexile.com gives every visitor a session cookie, so the app now asks the site whether you're really signed in, and keeps the window open until you are.

  • Removed: stash value tracking, until GGG releases a stash API for PoE2. Screen reading wasn't reliable enough, and public tabs only work as a workaround. F3 is free again.

  • Fixed: "Query is too complex" on Better for my build (e.g. for a focus). When the trade site rejects a search for having too many filters, the app makes it smaller step by step instead of opening a failing page; signed-in searches (Options → Trade site account) go first, as the site allows bigger ones.

  • Mageblood: Legacy of … lines are read and turned into their stats (e.g. Bismuth +45% all elemental resistances, Quicksilver 30% movement speed), with the duplicate-effect bonus. Ruby/Sapphire/Topaz (and other +max resistance) raise that element's cap. Re-copying an item you already wear doesn't shift your resistance totals.

  • Resistances: totals now follow your gear (what you entered/imported, minus the gear you wore then, plus the gear you wear now), and there's a safety buffer (15% for PoB numbers, 5% for typed-in ones). Resistance keeps counting in the gear score until you're over the cap by the buffer, and a swap that leaves you only a little over the cap is marked UPGRADE, BUT… with a warning – PoB can count charms and buffs that aren't always on.

  • Trade results: Open this item on trade site opens your browser on just that seller's listing (same search, narrowed to their account), so the site's own Travel to Hideout / whisper buttons are right at the top.

  • Trade results: Travel to hideout now shows on every instant-buyout listing; the first time it asks you to sign in to pathofexile.com, then takes you there from the app.

  • Trade results: a Show 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 8 / all mods picker for the stat changes on each card (remembered).

  • Better for my build finds real upgrades, not junk: listings must have at least two of the slot's key stats at a de...
