I have heard about ES modules, but have not yet tried them myself. At least currently Express is a CommonJS module. I saw some write ups on how to make a module be both at the same time and such, but haven't really looked into it too much yet.

Ah. I see you erased the post of the issue. Without any information in the issue, I'm going to close it for now.

As an FYI, I didn't have a full tsconfig at first so missed setting esModuleInterop to try. It had been defaulted in other packages so I hadn't had to think about it. Once I updated the settings (and, to be safe, installed the type definitions) it all went smoothly. I've learned a lot in the process such as needing to add ".js" to local imports.
