PhoneCam

A simple application that repurposes old iPhones as security cameras.

Overview

PhoneCam turns unused iPhones into practical security cameras. This project was created to give new functionality to older devices while providing a cost-effective security solution.

Background

This project began when I had an old iPhone that was no longer being used as a primary device. Rather than letting it collect dust, I developed PhoneCam to utilize the device's existing camera and processing capabilities for home security purposes.

Features

  • Motion detection recording
  • Continuous recording option
  • Multiple resolution settings (720p, 1080p, 4K)
  • Background operation
  • Efficient storage management
  • In-app footage gallery
  • Night mode support

Future Development

  • Cloud upload functionality
  • Remote viewing
  • Multi-device management
  • Enhanced detection algorithms
  • Notification system
  • Smart home integration

Requirements

  • iPhone with iOS 15.0+
  • Power source for extended use
  • Suitable mounting location

Installation

  1. Install PhoneCam on your device
  2. Complete initial setup process
  3. Position the device in desired location
  4. Connect to power for continuous operation
