Usage (Livi overlay w carplay connected, telemetry with maps, redraw on resize)

Hi, i'm setting up an x86 dell 7220 as a dashboard for a custom motorcycle.

I'm already using tunerstudio/tsdash to tune/visualize the instrument cluster / engine data, i discovered livi while looking to add a carplay function.

I realized that i can write a wrapper that feeds telemetry to livi and have a neat interface when not in tuning mode, going to try.

I have some questions on usage:

In the cluster / telemetry view, it should be possible to have the satnav / maps screen in the background as shown in screenshots ? I'm succesfully having the carplay main screen displayed in the main stream but not here.

Livi left bar buttons disappear on carplay connect, is there a keybinding to have them back ? or to switch from one mode to another ?

I'm running livi on wayland/sway and i tried to resize it while running but it goes black (comprehensibly), is there a clean way to ask it for a (runtime) resize to leave room for other data on screen (ie a bar with engine data) ?

Hi @gdiciocco, cluster stream is implemented on Dash 3 and Dash 4. If you are using CarPlay, you need to enable cluster stream on the dongle. Cluster stream is only supported on a CPC200 with the latest firmware installed.

Go to: Settings → System → USB Dongle scroll to the bottom of the page and click ENABLE DEV TOOLS. Now go to the dongle’s webpage and enable Advanced Features.

In telemetry view when using map in the background and map alone the pivoting point of the vehicle is shifted to the left, it is well centered when the video starts, but just after a fraction of a second id gets shifted to the left, no areas of the screen remain empty due to the shift.

It is ok if I connect and LIVI is on telemetry screen, gets shifted when switching from carplay main screen.

What are your video settings, especially “View Area” and “Safe Area”, for the cluster stream?
You need to use “View Area” to create space for a custom overlay, but subtract it from “Safe Area” because the configured “Safe Area” already includes the “View Area.”

Also, please start by testing this either on the cage setup as described in the repo (scripts/install/pi-lite/install.sh) or on the full desktop setup (scripts/install/pi/install.sh). Otherwise, I can’t verify whether this is caused by your custom compositor setup or a bug in LIVI.

I'm not using any customization here, more details:
It is off center if there's a navigation active and if from carplay main screen i go back to cluster view by tapping the "app" icon.
It could also be making sense as it seems to be making space for directions in the upper-right part of the "safe area", but directions could be centered and so the pivot (as from your screenshots)

Cluster View and safe area are at their defaults: 0 0 0 0 for the view area and 60 10 300 300 for the safe area.

In what situation? On CarPlay?
On Dash, it hides automatically and reappears as soon as you touch the screen or press a button.

For the CarPlay screen, you can use View Area to create space for your own overlay. You’ll need to use a window manager to display custom controls as an overlay.

Furthermore, with the Auto Switch setting, you can control whether LIVI should switch to CarPlay on startup.
To leave CarPlay, use the CarPlay UI element “App” (or whatever you named it). Disable all Auto Switch and make Telemetry your Start Page. Re-ordering the dashes is also supported.

Gotcha, will use dash / telemetry view most of the time, about the four "screens" in the dash mode center, third and fourth are maps with telemetry and maps alone respectively, what about the first two (none (clock ?) and compass? ) ?

Is there a way to have one of those automatically selected on startup ? ie. maps with telemetry

Dash 1 and Dash 2 display different turn-by-turn data in the center, simply start routing on your phone to see how it works.

Select your preferred dash by moving it to the first position (this will be the default dash in the Telemetry tab), or disable any other dashes.

Live resizing is supported, it works under LIVI's own wlroots compositor, which is the setup LIVI targets. There the video scene is scaled as the window changes, so a resize stays clean. In your case I guess the GStreamer waylandsink does not survive the reconfiguration.
