SS1 Tool 1.28.1

Fixes for the Controller tester added in 1.28.0, mostly its SNAC card (the SuperStation's own front ports), and a fix for starting a newer copy of SS1 Tool.

Controller tester: SNAC card

  • Shows the PlayStation controller in front port 1. Console Mode passes the port on as a "ConsoleMode SNAC Pad", which borrows a PS3 controller's IDs, and SS1 Tool used the PS3 button map for it. Now ✕ ○ □ △, L1 R1 L2 R2, Select, Start and the D-pad all light up where they should. Tested with an original PlayStation controller.
  • Follows the port while Console Mode is on screen. In MiSTer menu mode, MiSTer handles the front port itself and doesn't pass it on to Linux. The card says so and asks you to switch to Console Mode to test the port.
  • Defaults to the PlayStation (digital) layout. The front port only reports digital buttons and the D-pad.
  • "Nothing lights up?" checklist on the card:
    1. The dock's SNAC Bypass switch must be set to Disabled. SuperStations ship with it enabled, and while it is, the front ports are switched off and only the dock's SNAC port works.
    2. Console Mode must be on screen, not MiSTer's own menu or a core.
    3. If the controller doesn't move the cursor in Console Mode either, Console Mode isn't receiving it, so there's nothing for SS1 Tool to show.

Controller tester: all cards

  • Software controllers are left out. SS1 Tool's remote pad, MiSTer Companion's virtual controller and MiSTer's virtual input aren't real controllers.
  • Quick taps show up. A press that starts and ends between two readings now lights up briefly instead of being missed.
  • Raw buttons: every controller shows a "Held (Linux codes)" line, useful when a button doesn't land where you expect.
  • Cleaner D-pad: the mock D-pad is one cross outline, with no overlapping edges between the directions.

Starting a newer copy

  • Starting a different version of SS1 Tool now replaces the copy already running in the tray. Before, the old copy's window just opened again, so you kept using the old version without noticing. If the running copy is busy (a backup or flash, for example), it's left alone and you're told why. This works from this version on; to switch away from an older version, exit it from the tray first.
