🚀 Release v1.1.0
Version 1.1.0 adds support for 9 new applications, expanding the script's capabilities to manage 13 packages. It introduces AppImage support, the ability to install multiple programs in a single command, and improves verification and system architecture checking mechanisms.
✨ New Features & Capabilities
- 9 new supported packages:
- 🎵 Spotify
- 🎮 Steam (with automatic
i386architecture addition if missing) - ☁️ Dropbox
- 🌐 Google Chrome
- 🛡️ Proton VPN
- 🦁 Brave Browser
- 💻 Visual Studio Code
- 📷 Darktable (installed as an AppImage system-wide in
/opt/darktable) - 🐯 Tiger Studio Manager (installed as an AppImage locally for the user in
~/.local/)
- Multiple packages at once: You can now install, update, or remove multiple apps in a single command, e.g.:
./Multi_Package_Manager.sh --install discord brave vscode - Smart package aliases: The script recognizes shortcuts and alternative names (e.g.,
chrome->google-chrome,code->vscode,tiger-studio->tigertag). - AppImage format support:
- Automatic downloading of the latest versions via GitHub API.
- Automatic downloading and installation of application icons.
- Generation of
.desktopfiles and refreshing the graphical environment database.
- Enforced x86_64 architecture: The script now explicitly checks and blocks execution on architectures other than
x86_64/amd64.
🔒 Security & Verification
- Proton VPN: The repository configuration package installation now supports SHA256 checksum verification.
- Other new packages (including AppImages): Providers of these applications do not publish official checksums. The script displays an appropriate warning in such cases, and installation relies on trusting the official source.
🔧 Improvements & Refactoring
- Dynamic package name tracking: Introduced state files (
*_dpkg_name.txtin/var/lib/...) that remember the exact.debpackage name after installation (e.g., for Steam, Dropbox, Chrome). This reduces the risk of the script trying to manage the wrong package in the future. - New APT/DEB management engine: Created universal helper functions (
apt_app_manage,install_deb_file,apt_get_candidate_version), which drastically reduced code duplication for new applications. - Automatic FUSE library detection: The script automatically checks whether the system requires
libfuse2(older systems) orlibfuse2t64(e.g., Ubuntu 24.04+), which is necessary to run AppImage files. - TigerTag management: The
--updateaction for Tiger Studio Manager is intentionally blocked by the script because the application has a built-in internal update mechanism (electron-update). - Expanded translation dictionary (PL/EN): Added dozens of new messages regarding AppImage, FUSE, APT, icons, and new packages.
📦 System Dependencies
- Added requirement / automatic installation of the
gpg(gnupg) package – necessary for handling repository keys (Spotify, Brave). - Added automatic installation of
libfuse2orlibfuse2t64(required for Darktable and TigerTag).
📂 New State Files and Directories
The script now creates and manages additional files in /var/lib/multi_package_manager_config_and_logs/:
steam_dpkg_name.txtdropbox_dpkg_name.txtgoogle-chrome_dpkg_name.txtproton-vpn_dpkg_name.txtvscode_dpkg_name.txtdarktable_installed_version.txttigertag_installed_version.txt(in~/.local/share/mpm/)
⚠️ Notes
- The script supports only systems with x86_64 (amd64) architecture.
- Tiger Studio Manager is installed only in the user's home directory (
~/.local/...) and does not require root privileges to run, although the script will still ask forsudofor log consistency and other system operations.
