Lab599 Firmware Updater v1.2 for macOS

Lab599 Firmware Updater is a native, lightweight, and robust macOS application designed to flash and update firmware on Lab599 transceivers (TX-500 Discovery and TX-500MP) via a standard CAT-USB serial connection.

Developed by EP2AES (factoreal).

🌟 What's New in Version 1.2

  • 🌐 Direct Online Firmware Check & Download:
    • Connects directly to lab599.com/downloads to query official releases and patches.
    • Interactive download sheet with model filtering (TX-500 Discovery, TX-500MP), live version display, file sizes, and release notes / changelogs.
    • Automatic BL20 container validation and SHA-256 checksum verification upon download.
    • Offline fallback catalog built-in for offline field operations.
  • 📻 Universal Multi-Model Support:
    • Compatible with all Lab599 transceivers using the manufacturer's BL20 bootloader protocol (TX-500 Discovery, TX-500MP, and HAM-Bands patches).
  • ⚡ Two-ACK Bootloader Protocol Engine:
    • Fixes prior protocol timeout issues by implementing the true manufacturer sequence:
      16-byte Header -> Radio OK -> Full Payload -> Final Radio OK with proper host output queue (TIOCOUTQ) drain pacing.
  • 🛡️ Flashing Safeguards:
    • Prevents system idle sleep during active transmission (NSProcessInfo).
    • Guards against accidental window close or quit while flashing.

📦 Installation

  1. Download the attached Lab599-Firmware-Updater-v1.2-macOS.zip.
  2. Unzip the file and drag Lab599-Firmware-Updater.app into your /Applications folder.
  3. If macOS Gatekeeper prevents opening on first launch (since it is an ad-hoc signed open-source binary), either right-click the app and choose Open, or run the following in Terminal: 
    xattr -cr /Applications/Lab599-Firmware-Updater.app

Source archive note (2026-10-02): This historical tag was moved onto the cleaned repository history. Its tracked source files are unchanged. Attached downloadable files and their checksums were not changed. The source archive for this tag still contains older review documentation; the retired reverse-engineering/ directory is absent from the tag tree.
