Google TV Remote 1.0.0
A desktop remote control for Google TV / Android TV devices (Chromecast with Google TV, TCL / Sony / Hisense Google TVs, NVIDIA Shield, ...). It speaks the same Android TV Remote Service v2 protocol as the official Google TV app, so nothing is installed on the TV.
Install
Download GoogleTVRemote.exe below and run it - no Python needed. Pin it to the taskbar or put a shortcut in shell:startup.
First use: press Scan (or type the TV's IP), press Connect, and enter the 6-digit code the TV shows. The app remembers the pairing and auto-connects from then on.
Highlights
- D-pad, Back / Home / Menu, volume and media keys, power - all with keyboard shortcuts (arrows, Enter, Backspace, Space,
+/-,M) - Live typing: put the cursor in a text box on the TV and just type on your PC keyboard; Backspace deletes, Enter submits. Any Unicode text works.
- Input switching menu (HDMI 1-4, AV, tuner on TCL sets; key codes for other makers; your own input ids via
settings.json) - One-tap app icons (YouTube, Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, Spotify - customisable)
- Live status from the TV: volume, power, foreground app, focused text field
- Network scan (mDNS), auto-reconnect, resizable interface (
Ctrl+/-)
Under the hood
Pure Python on top of the standard library plus cryptography: a small protobuf encoder/decoder, an mDNS client and the pairing / control sessions, with an end-to-end test suite against a mock TV and a cross-check of the encoder against protobufjs. Runs from source with python -m gtvremote or installs with pip install ..
