oppo-dv-mkv v1.6.0
⚠️ USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. I am not responsible for anything that happens to your player or any other equipment. Read the README before installing.
📺 All testing was done with Dolby Vision in TV-led mode, not player-led (LLDV).
Black letterbox bars in Dolby Vision
When a Dolby Vision picture doesn't fill the screen (for example a 3840x1600 film), the bars the player adds above and below it were dark grey instead of black. This is the player's own behaviour, also without oppo-dv-mkv. Bars that are part of the encoded picture were always fine.
The video mixer paints the bars with the player's background colour, but keeps only the top 4 bits of it. Black becomes 1/16 of full scale. In SDR/HDR10 that is still black, but in Dolby Vision it is about 0.1 nit, a dark grey that shows on TVs that reach true black, such as OLED. One instruction in the video driver now makes the bars true black. In SDR/HDR10 they are slightly below black, which TVs show as black.
- Part of the Dolby Vision MKV fix: installed by the
full,mkv-subtitlesandmkv-onlyzips, applied at every boot, and every byte around the change is checked before anything is written. - Confirmed by several users with the test version v1.6.0-beta1 on OLED TVs, including an LG G5 in TV-led mode: pitch black bars. On an LCD/QLED TV you may see no difference, because the TV's own black is above 0.1 nit.
- Found, analysed and tested by a user in #5. Thank you!
Everything else is the same as v1.5.0. The other Dolby Vision files, the subtitles and the factory menu are unchanged.
Updating from v1.5.0 or v1.6.0-beta1
Run the v1.6.0 zip you want exactly like the installer (below). From v1.5.0 it only adds the letterbox fix; everything else stays as it is. v1.6.0-beta1 is the same code. Older versions (v1.0.0–v1.4.0) are updated in place too. To go back, run the v1.5.0 zip the same way.
Before installing: check your player (optional)
Use oppo-dv-mkv-v1.6.0-check.zip like the installer. It changes nothing and writes oppo-dv-mkv.log and oppo-dv-mkv-result.txt to the stick: one line per part, yes or no and why. If something you expected says no, please open an issue with that log.
Install / update
- Unzip one of the installer zips to the root of a FAT32 USB stick.
- Turn the player off, put the stick in the rear USB port (no other USB storage connected), and turn the player on.
- About 30 s after the home menu appears, turn the player off and remove the stick.
- Optional: open
oppo-dv-mkv-result.txton the stick on a PC. - Turn the player on.
If no part can be installed on your player, the installer says FAILED and changes nothing.

v1.6.0-beta1: black letterbox bars in Dolby Vision (test version)
✅ Superseded by v1.6.0 (the same fix, now confirmed by users). Use that one.
🧪 TEST VERSION. For people who want to help test the fix below. If you just want a working player, stay on v1.5.0.
⚠️ USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. I am not responsible for anything that happens to your player or any other equipment. Read the README before installing.
Black letterbox bars in Dolby Vision
When a Dolby Vision picture doesn't fill the screen (for example a 3840x1600 film), the bars the player adds above and below it are dark grey instead of black. This is the player's own behaviour, also without oppo-dv-mkv. Bars that are part of the encoded picture are fine.

One instruction in the video driver now makes the bars true black (in SDR/HDR10 slightly below black, which TVs show as black). It is installed and applied together with the Dolby Vision MKV fix, and every byte around the change is checked before anything is written.
Found, analysed and tested by a user in #5, thank you!
What we know so far:
- Works for the issue author (UDP-203 clone, USA jailbreak).
- On my RU player the mixer's background value changes as expected (
10 80 80→00 80 80), but my QLED (LCD) TV shows no visible difference: its own black level is higher than 0.1 nit. - The changed code is identical in all four known driver builds (RU, US, the +0x50 one and Cambridge CXUHD).
Please report in #5: your TV model and type (OLED, QLED/LCD…), TV-led or player-led Dolby Vision, and whether the bars of a cropped Dolby Vision film look black, grey, or no different from v1.5.0.
Everything else is identical to v1.5.0. The other Dolby Vision files, the subtitles and the factory menu are unchanged.
Updating from v1.5.0 only adds bgfix.sh; everything else stays as it is. It also updates older versions in place.
To go back: run the v1.5.0 zip the same way. Its boot script doesn't run the fix, so the bars are back to stock at the next boot.

⚠️ USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. I am not responsible for anything that happens to your player or any other equipment. Read the README before installing.
📺 All testing was done with Dolby Vision in TV-led mode, not player-led (LLDV).
Recommended update for everyone on v1.4.0 (and older)
- Better subtitles and the factory menu shortcut for more players. Until now they only installed on the RU 65-0131 player program. They now carry a layout for the player program of every regional v65 firmware (RU, EU, AU, CN, TW, JP, US), jailbroken or run by jb_overlay, and the installer picks the matching one on your player. Every place is checked before anything is written; a player program that matches no layout is skipped with the reason, as before.
- USA jailbreak players get both: their player program turned out to be the RU one with a few jailbreak changes.
- jb_overlay players get the subtitle improvements too (with the dark theme, the colour squares in the subtitle menu keep the theme's colours).
- Only the RU program has been tested on a real player so far; the others were checked offline against the firmware and testers' dumps. Please report how it goes.
- Cambridge Audio CXUHD (firmware 66-0614): the Dolby Vision MKV fix already worked with v1.4.0 (confirmed by a user). New: better subtitles. The CXUHD needs no factory menu shortcut: its own firmware opens the Factory Page with the normal remote: Setup > Playback Setup, cursor on the second item, then BLUE, 2, 4, 5, 8. The installer recognises this and says
not neededfor that part. Not yet tried on a real CXUHD; the same warnings apply (never press "Fmt buda" / "Fmt apda"). - Fail-safe fix. If the player was switched off twice within 90 seconds of power-on, the boot wrapper's fail-safe switched the patches off for good (until the next install), so the Dolby Vision fix seemed to stop working. It now skips them for one boot only and then tries again.
- The installer and the full dump run only once per boot. One player started the USB script twice when a second USB disk was connected.
- The Dolby Vision fix itself is unchanged from v1.4.0.
Tested: the installer in every player situation it can meet (32 offline scenarios, including updating from v1.4.0 on RU, USA jailbreak, jb_overlay and CXUHD players), the subtitle and factory menu patches on 11 player programs, and a dry run on the RU player.
Updating from v1.4.0
Run the v1.5.0 zip you want exactly like the installer (below). It replaces the boot wrapper, adds the parts your player now supports, keeps a jb_overlay chain as it is, and resets the fail-safe counters. Your Dolby Vision files stay as they are (they are identical). It also updates v1.0.0–v1.3.1 in place.
Before installing: check your player (optional)
Use oppo-dv-mkv-v1.5.0-check.zip like the installer.

📺 All testing was done with Dolby Vision in TV-led mode, not player-led (LLDV).
Recommended update for everyone on v1.3.1
- Fixed freezes and green strips on Dolby Vision UHD Blu-ray discs and ISOs. With v1.3.1 installed, a disc could freeze after a chapter skip, fast-forward or rewind, and the looping Dolby Vision video in some disc menus showed green strips. The v1.3.1 seek fixes were meant for MKV but also ran during disc playback. They now only act on MKV/TS Dolby Vision, and discs play exactly as on stock firmware again. MKV playback is unchanged from v1.3.1.
- New: factory menu shortcut. Setup > Playback Setup, put the cursor on Gapless Playback, press 0 0 0 0: Oppo's hidden Factory Page opens (versions, region codes, service buttons). Read the Factory menu section first: never press "Fmt buda" / "Fmt apda", they format storage. Like the stock page, opening it also turns off the firmware-update region check and starts a telnet server until the next power cycle. Works on the RU 65-0131 player program and on the copy that jb_overlay V3 runs.
- Smarter installer. It checks each part (Dolby Vision fix, subtitles, factory menu) on its own, installs the parts that can be installed safely on your player and skips the others.
oppo-dv-mkv-result.txton the stick says, part by part, what was installed or why not. - Five download options (see Files below).
Tested on the RU 65-0131 jailbreak: four Dolby Vision UHD Blu-ray ISOs (menus, chapter skips both ways, fast-forward and rewind; the hooks provably stay inactive on discs), P7 MEL and FEL MKVs (chapter skips, stop), the factory menu shortcut, and the installer in every player situation it can meet (offline test matrix plus a dry run on the player). The factory menu with jb_overlay was checked against the overlay's player program but not yet on a real player: please report how it goes.
Before installing: check your player (optional)
Use oppo-dv-mkv-v1.4.0-check.zip like the installer. It changes nothing and writes oppo-dv-mkv.log and oppo-dv-mkv-result.txt to the stick: one line per part, yes or no and why. If something you expected says no, please open an issue with that log.

- Optional: open

oppo-dv-mkv v1.3.1
⚠️ USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. I am not responsible for anything that happens to your player or any other equipment. Read the README before installing.
📺 All testing was done with Dolby Vision in TV-led mode, not player-led (LLDV).
Recommended update for everyone
- No more freezes after chapter skips, seeking, or changing the audio or subtitle track in P7 MKVs, especially with MEL files and when skipping back a chapter.
- P7 films now end normally. At the very end of a P7 MKV the picture froze on the last frame, and nothing played again until the player was restarted. Now the player returns to the file list.
- More players supported. The fix now measures where the video driver keeps its data and adapts to it. This covers the USA-region driver, a third driver build, and other builds whose patched code is unchanged. Anything else is refused and nothing is changed.
- jb_overlay (themes, ssh) keeps working: oppo-dv-mkv starts first and then hands over to it.
- Three download options: Dolby Vision fix + subtitles, Dolby Vision fix only, or subtitles only.
Tested on the RU 65-0131 jailbreak with a full-length P7 MEL film and a full-length P7 FEL film: well over 100 chapter skips and skips back, audio and subtitle track changes, and playing to the end. The other driver builds were checked against driver dumps but not yet on a real player: please report how it goes.
Before installing: check your player (optional)
Use oppo-dv-mkv-v1.3.1-check.zip like the installer. It changes nothing and writes oppo-dv-mkv.log to the stick, ending with VERDICT: COMPATIBLE or VERDICT: NOT COMPATIBLE. If it says not compatible, please open an issue with that log.
Install / update
- Unzip one of the installer zips to the root of a FAT32 USB stick.
- Turn the player off, put the stick in the rear USB port, and turn the player on.
- About 30 s after the home menu appears, turn the player off and remove the stick.
- Turn the player on.
This updates v1.0.0–v1.2.0 in place. On unsupported firmware the installer refuses and changes nothing. The subtitle improvements need the RU 65-0131 player program and are skipped automatically elsewhere (also with jb_overlay).

📺 All testing was done with Dolby Vision in TV-led mode, not player-led (LLDV).
Recommended update for everyone on v1.0.0 / v1.1.0
- Lip sync fixed. In P7 MKVs with audio, the audio was about 0.5 s off. The AV-sync controller now goes to the base-layer video plane, as with single-layer MKV.
- No more freezes or green strips after fast-forward or seeking in P7 MKVs. Before, the EL decoder could pick up the base layer's 4K picture settings after a seek or trick play; this froze playback and left green strips in the picture until a reboot.
- Fixed a rare hard lock when an MKV with audio was started 300–305 seconds after power-on (the kernel tick counter wraps around then).
- Tested with Dolby TrueHD Atmos (raw HBR passthrough), in addition to AC-3.
The better subtitles and the check-only zip from v1.1.0 are unchanged.

oppo-dv-mkv v1.1.0
Superseded by v1.2.0. Please update: this version has audio about 0.5 s out of sync in P7 MKVs, can show green strips after fast-forward, and has a rare hard lock 300 s after power-on.
⚠️ USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. I am not responsible for anything that happens to your player or any other equipment. Read the README before installing.
📺 All testing was done with Dolby Vision in TV-led mode, not player-led (LLDV).
New in v1.1.0
- Better subtitles. This part needs the RU 65-0131 player program:
- anti-aliased text instead of jagged 1-bit glyphs;
- an outline width of 2, with a black outline option;
- grey text colours for dimmer subtitles on HDR and Dolby Vision;
- colour squares in the subtitle menu that match the new colours.
- Wider compatibility for the Dolby Vision fix. The installer now checks the files it actually patches:
liblp.so, which is identical in every regional v65 firmware, and an in-memory fingerprint of the video driver. It no longer requires the RU player program. RU 65-0131 is still the only jailbreak that was tested. - Check-only zip.
oppo-dv-mkv-v1.1.0-check.zipwrites a compatibility report to the stick and changes nothing. - The Dolby Vision patches are unchanged from v1.0.0.
