dj-digger 1.3.0 brings a redesigned desktop: rename files and fix artists right in the track list, a folder tree that shows only folders with music, a calmer and clearer toolbar, and a Windows installer that now also runs on Windows 10. Windows and Mac installers are available below; no Python or terminal commands are needed for these downloads.

Download the desktop preview

Windows 10 (version 1809 or newer) or Windows 11, Intel/AMD 64-bit Windows installer

Please read the installation guide before opening the installer. These are unsigned desktop previews from a free, open-source hobby project. What's new

  • Windows 10 support: the installer used to refuse every Windows 10; it now runs on Windows 10 version 1809 or newer as well as Windows 11.
  • Edit in place: in folder views, double-click the artist or the track name (or press F2). A new name renames the file on disk, keeps its BPM/key analysis, waveform and links, and never replaces another file.
  • Local tracks show their file name as the track name; the artist comes from a value you set, the file's tag, or the text before the first " - ". Genre, year and label are read from the file tags.
  • "New" status: tracks you have not played yet read New; starting a track takes it away.
  • Folder tree: only folders with music are listed, a right click hides a folder (bring it back in Settings → Preferences), and a folder whose music is only in subfolders opens in the tree instead of as an empty list. .mp4 videos no longer count as audio.
  • Playback keys: Space only pauses or resumes the playing track, whatever is selected; Enter starts the selected track.
  • Player: visible from startup with a slowly drifting waveform; on a kick the whole played side of the waveform lights up; the volume slider takes your colour pair.
  • Cleaner layout: the menu bar and the right-click menu no longer repeat the toolbar (Preferences moved to Shift+S), Hide handled is an eye toggle at the right, BPM and key sit next to the artist, key colours are easier to tell apart, long mixes show hours, and numbers are never cut off.

Python / terminal users

The package is still dj-sc-digger on PyPI; the command is dj-digger. Update with the same package manager used for installation. The desktop entry point dj-digger-gui is available with the gui extra. Close all running copies before upgrading; your library, settings and account data are kept.

Preview limitations

Automated tests cover startup, packaged media decoding and analysis, bundled browser startup and installer operations on Windows and macOS. The new desktop behaviour was checked by hand on Linux, including the waveform animation and kick light on a GPU display. The Windows 10 installer was built and tested on Windows Server CI runners but not yet on a physical Windows 10 PC. Signed-in account flows, download gates and screen readers were not tested, and no live account or purchase tests were performed for this release.

See the changelog for details.

Verification

  • Local offline suite: 785 passed, 83 live/provider tests deselected; specification map check, lint, wheel build and isolated install check passed.
  • Cross-platform CI: Python 3.12, 3.13 and 3.14 on Linux, macOS and Windows.
  • Desktop build and runtime checks: the installers below come from this run; their build manifests name commit 67f2966, whose files are identical to the release commit on main.
