FindMyDevice

This is a Fork

Forked from https://gitlab.com/Nulide/findmydevice
Why?
The base repo is in Alpha still and rightfully does not have a clear documentation yet, nor a clear explaination of what each option does. Some options are present in the code but likely forgotten to be written about in the documentation.

Furthermore does not seem to be possible to set a PIN to confirm commands without lowering the security of the application (making PIN required only if the other device is not in the whitelist). It is not possible to be in the whitelist AND confirm commands with a PIN. A government or an hacker can easily perform a SIM swap exposing sensitive data (eg GPS coordinates) or performing destructive actions (wipe data).

The goal of this fork is hence increase security, write a better documentation and do some code clean-up.

Bug in Version 0.2.4

In the last version fmd deletes all data on the server, due to a vulnerbility. I am sorry but i forgot to remove this codeline from the new release, so every phone deletes it's registration data. This only happens if the app is installed via an appstore. If the app is compiled and installed via adb this will not happen(this is also the reason why i didn't notice anything about this.)

Find your Device via SMS. This applications goal is to track your device when it's lost and should be a secure open source application and a alternative to Googles FindMyDevice.

Get it on F-Droid

Why?

I have lost my brand new phone last week. I have to say, if i would have used Googles Services like (FindMyDevice) i could have a better chance to find it. But why the heck did nobody created an open source application to find a lost device without giving up your privacy and feeding the big data crake Google.

If you like and want to support this project, spread the info about this application or donate.

Why is it taking that long to fix x?

I am working full-time. This project is my free-time and i have spent a lot of time in this and still will. If there are bugs i will try to fix them as soon as possible, but my full-time job has priority. If it takes too long to fix something you can of course try to fix it by yourself and contribute to this project.

Thanks

Nulide
