5.0.1 is the tidying that came out of preparing the first TestFlight build. Nothing in it changes how the app flies. One thing in it had been quietly broken since the feature shipped.

Bug Fixes

  • Landing-fee links were missing from every build that did not come off my own machine. The CI script that assembles the app's secrets was never taught to write the one the airfield API needs, so the app sent no client header, the server refused the request, and the tariff registry failed to load. Nothing looked broken: the links simply were not there. Local builds had the value and worked, which is exactly why it went unnoticed.
  • The app no longer sends a device identifier. When there was no subscription transaction to identify an install, it fell back to the vendor id and sent that as a credential. The server stopped accepting anything but a minted session token some time ago, so it authenticated nothing and only existed to be declared in a privacy label. It is gone.
  • The location permission prompts say what they mean. They were the default phrasing: "This app records your flight track using GPS to save in your flight log", and the same again with "even when the app is in the background" appended. The new ones name the app, say the track stays on your device and in your own iCloud, and, for the "Always" grant, say what actually breaks without it: recording stops when the screen locks, so landings are missed and the logbook times are wrong.

Improvements

  • The download is about half a megabyte smaller. Demo flight data used only by the screenshot tooling, and a StoreKit test configuration, were both shipping inside the app. Neither was reachable in a release build. Both are now excluded from it.
  • Build numbers come from the build system. They were a fixed 0.1 in the project, which meant every archive carried the same one and App Store Connect would refuse the second upload. Xcode Cloud's own counter now supplies it, and it never resets between releases.

Compatibility

  • Unchanged from 5.0.0. Requires iOS/iPadOS 17.0 or later. Companion mode and shared GPS need iOS 26 on both devices. Barometer-assisted detection engages on devices that have the sensor.
