Not sure which Mac you have? Apple menu → About This Mac: the Chip line says Apple M… or Intel.
The .tar.gz, .sig and latest.json files are for the built-in updater; you do not need to download them.
First launch: the installers are not signed yet
Moony is not yet signed by Apple or Microsoft, so your system warns you the first time you open it. The app is not damaged. You need the step below once, for the copy you downloaded in your browser.
macOS
- Open the
.dmgand drag Moony into Applications. - Open Terminal (Applications → Utilities → Terminal), paste this line and press Return:
It removes the "downloaded from the internet" mark that makes macOS say "Moony is damaged and can't be opened".
xattr -cr /Applications/Moony.app - Open Moony as usual.
If macOS instead says that it cannot verify the developer, you can also skip Terminal: try to open Moony once, then go to System Settings → Privacy & Security, scroll to Security and click Open Anyway next to Moony.
Windows
- If the browser says the file is not commonly downloaded, keep it. In Edge: ⋯ → Keep → Show more → Keep anyway.
- Run the installer. When SmartScreen shows "Windows protected your PC", click More info, then Run anyway.
Linux
- AppImage:
chmod +x Moony_0.12.1_amd64.AppImage, then run it. Some distributions need thelibfuse2package first. - Debian / Ubuntu:
sudo apt install ./Moony_0.12.1_amd64.deb - Fedora / openSUSE:
sudo dnf install ./Moony-0.12.1-1.x86_64.rpm
After installing
Moony asks for a password and shows a recovery key on the first start; save the key somewhere safe. Later versions arrive through the built-in updater after you unlock the app (you can switch the check off in Settings → Security). More in the README.
Moony v0.12.0
Moony is a private personal finance app: your records stay on your computer, in an encrypted database. What changed in this version is in the changelog.
Upgrading from 0.10.0 or earlier? Read this first. This version has a new app identifier, com.moonyfinance.desktop (was com.filipkral.moony), and Moony does not move your data folder. To keep your data, quit Moony and rename the old folder to com.moonyfinance.desktop before the first start — macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/com.filipkral.moony, Windows: %APPDATA%\com.filipkral.moony, Linux: ~/.local/share/com.filipkral.moony. If the new version already shows the first-run setup, quit it, delete the new com.moonyfinance.desktop folder, then rename the old one. Details in PRIVACY.md.

Moony v0.11.0
Upgrading from an earlier version? Read this first.
Moony 0.11.0 has a new app identifier,
com.moonyfinance.desktop(it wascom.filipkral.moony).
Your data folder is named after it, and Moony does not move the folder for you. To keep your
data, quit Moony and rename the old folder before you start 0.11.0 for the first time:
OS Rename this folder to macOS ~/Library/Application Support/com.filipkral.moonycom.moonyfinance.desktopWindows %APPDATA%\com.filipkral.moonycom.moonyfinance.desktopLinux ~/.local/share/com.filipkral.moonycom.moonyfinance.desktopIf 0.11.0 has already started and shows the first-run setup, quit it, delete the new
com.moonyfinance.desktopfolder, and rename the old one. Nothing is ever deleted from the old
folder for you.A few interface preferences start from their defaults once: the lock-screen language, auto-lock
and the automatic update check (on by default; turn it off again under Settings → Security →
Updates if you had it off). On Windows, an install in a custom folder gets a fresh copy in the
default folder; remove the old one in Settings → Apps.
