@fivefold3 fivefold3 released this 25 Sep 10:54

OpenWrt for the GL.iNet Slate 7 (GL-BE3600): the stock image.

OpenWrt's default packages for the target, the router's hardware support
(both Wi-Fi radios with their firmware and board data, both 2.5 GbE ports,
USB 3.0 host, fan, side screen and touch drivers) and the LuCI web interface.
Nothing else. For USB modems, tethering, USB storage, file sharing and VPNs,
use the extended release.

Built from commit 5159929 on branch gl-be3600 (OpenWrt SNAPSHOT
r0-5159929, Linux 6.18.39) with configs/be3600.config.

Installing

File Use
…-squashfs-factory.bin First install: from the stock GL.iNet firmware's local-upgrade page ("keep settings" off), or from U-Boot web recovery
…-squashfs-sysupgrade.bin From OpenWrt already on the router: sysupgrade keeps settings, sysupgrade -n wipes them

U-Boot web recovery (also the way back to stock): power off, hold reset,
apply power and keep holding until recovery starts; set the PC to
192.168.1.2/24, open http://192.168.1.1, upload the file, wait about three
minutes.

First boot: plug your computer into the LAN jack; it gets an address
from the router at 192.168.1.1. The WAN jack is the uplink and takes its
own address by DHCP from your modem or upstream network. LuCI is at
http://192.168.1.1 and SSH is root@192.168.1.1, both with no password until
you set one. Both Wi-Fi radios are present but disabled, as OpenWrt does by
default: enable them under Network → Wireless.

Regulatory country: both radios take the country code stored in the
router's calibration partition. If you use it elsewhere, set both radios
to the country of use (Network → Wireless → radio → Advanced).

Packages: there is no online package repository for this build. Kernel
modules only load on the kernel they were built with, so add packages by
building them from the source; see "Adding packages" in the README.

Warning

Unofficial community port, not affiliated with GL.iNet or the OpenWrt
project, provided as-is with no warranty. Back up the NAND before the first
install
(scripts/gl-be3600/backup-mtd.sh): the 0:ART partition holds
the router's radio calibration and MAC addresses and exists nowhere else.
Tested on one GL-BE3600.

Known limitations

  • RTL8811AU (11ac) USB Wi-Fi clients cannot associate on 5 GHz.
  • Board data covers GL's plain hardware variants; the suffixed variants
(KCT, 33V, HP, LP) are untested.
  • No cross-band MLO: the two radios are separate, as usual on OpenWrt.
