Use this page when WatchAmp does not sign in, cannot find music, or playback does not work as expected.

No Plex Music Libraries

WatchAmp will display the "No Music Libraries" screen when it cannot connect to a Plex server. If you are not connected to a Cellular or WiFi network, this message is to be expected.

If you have locally downloaded tracks, you can access them by clicking the orange View Downloads button. This will take you to your On Device library.

Once you reestablish network connectivity, you rescan for available libraries by clicking the Choose Library header button in the top right of the screen on the No Music Libraries or Downloads Library pages and selecting Rescan at the bottom of the prompt.

Check:

  • Apple Watch network connection
  • Open the Choose Library button and select Rescan

Track Does Not Start

Check these items first:

  • Bluetooth headphones are connected to Apple Watch.
  • Apple Watch has network access if the track is not downloaded.
  • The Plex server is online and reachable.
  • The selected Plex library contains the track.
  • Try a downloaded track to separate network issues from playback issues.

Make sure your Apple Watch has a good network connection either over WiFi or Celluar. Try enabling Transcoding in WatchAmp's settings at Settings ➜ General ➜ Transcoding for a better playback experience. Direct Play can be very bandwidth intensive and can sometimes starve watchOS network resources, especially on older devices.

No Sound

  1. Confirm headphones are connected to Apple Watch, not only to iPhone.
  2. Raise system volume with headphone controls or the Digital Crown.
  3. Pause and resume playback.
  4. Try another track.
  5. Disconnect and reconnect the Bluetooth route.

WatchAmp uses Apple Watch system volume. If the system route is muted or very low, raise volume from the Digital Crown or headphones.

Codec Unsupported Notice

Codec Notice

Apple Watch natively supports AAC, MP3, Apple Lossless (ALAC), WAV, and AIFF audio codecs. Apple Watch does not support Direct Play for other formats like FLAC or OPUS.

To play these files, you can enable Transcoding in WatchAmp's settings at Settings ➜ General ➜ Transcoding.

Playback Stops or Skips

Apple Watch may need a moment to connect or switch the audio route when playback begins. If using Direct Play, the network connection may not be fast enough for streaming.

Try:

  1. Keep headphones connected before starting playback.
  2. Enable Transcoding in WatchAmp's settings.
  3. Download the track and play it locally.
  4. Test another file to rule out media compatibility.

Speaker Playback Does Not Work

Check:

  • the Speaker Playback setting is enabled in WatchAmps's settings.

Not all Apple Watches support external speaker playback for music. If audio does not play through the watch speaker, connect headphones and start the track again.

Plex Sign-In Does Not Complete

Check:

  • the PIN was claimed with the correct Plex account
  • Apple Watch has network access
  • the Plex authentication page completed successfully
  • the PIN has not expired

Restart the sign-in flow if the PIN expires.

Server Does Not Appear

Check:

  • the Plex account has access to the server
  • the server is online
  • remote access or local network access is available from the watch
  • the server has at least one music library

If the server has multiple connection URLs, the current network may only reach one of them.

Library Is Empty

Check:

  • a music library is selected, not a movie or TV library
  • the Plex server has scanned the library
  • the selected account has permission to view the library
  • the Apple Watch can reach the server

If downloads exist, use the Downloads library as an offline fallback.

Search Results Are Unexpected

Clear the search field and submit the search again. If the server is slow or unreachable, wait a moment and retry.

Downloads Do Not Appear

Check:

  • the download completed successfully
  • the file was not deleted from the Downloads screen
  • the downloaded item still has usable metadata
  • the app has enough local storage

Only completed downloads appear in the local Downloads library.

Download Seems Stuck or Slow on WiFi

Try these steps:

  1. Keep Apple Watch near your iPhone or connected to WiFi.
  2. Try turning off your iPhone's Bluetooth in System -> Settings when downloading files.
  3. Confirm the Plex server is reachable.
  4. Cancel the download and start it again.
  5. Free storage on Apple Watch if space is low.
  6. Restart WatchAmp if the screen does not update.

Sometimes watchOS will try to route network traffic over Bluetooth to a paired iPhone instead of WiFi. If your iPhone is nearby, this can cause your Apple Watch to download more slowly. Turning off your iPhone's Bluetooth in System -> Settings should force traffic over WiFi.

Downloads Stuck At 0.0 MB

WatchAmp prioritizes active streams over downloads and will pause downloads when bandwidth is needed for streaming playback or pre-caching of an upcoming track. Large format codecs, like ALAC, can put stress on watchOS's network resources, so downloads may progress slowly. To force downloads to continue, clear WatchAmp's play queue on the Queue tab.

Quick Fix Checklist

  1. Connect Bluetooth headphones to Apple Watch.
  2. Confirm Apple Watch has WiFi or cellular service.
  3. Confirm the Plex server is online.
  4. Try a downloaded track.
  5. Restart WatchAmp.
  6. Restart Apple Watch if audio routing still appears stuck.
