CoreJ2 v0.9.0-alpha

Summary

CoreJ2 reaches its first publicly documented playable commercial milestone: classic Java ME (J2ME) games run on a physical iPhone with an embedded OpenJDK Mobile runtime and FreeJ2ME, presented through a native SwiftUI app.

Originally developed as JavaOne.

Highlights

  • Embedded OpenJDK Mobile running on iPhone
  • Commercial J2ME / MIDlet support via FreeJ2ME
  • Miami Nights: Singles in the City fully playable in a manual device session (launch, menus, gameplay, save, load, dialogs; no crashes observed)
  • LCD rendering, touch input, virtual keypad, RMS save/load, and multiple launch cycles validated
  • Silent audio compatibility path available

Current limitation

  • Native MMAPI audio backend is not complete — titles that expect real sound playback remain in progress
  • Compatibility corpus expansion continues (Epic 12)

Media

Device screenshots, optimized GIFs, and MP4 recordings are published under docs/assets/ and on the documentation site.
