Concerns about the removal of the deprecated legacy X11 screenshot method #4771

https://github.com/linuxmint/xdg-desktop-portal-xapp has a white flashing indicator on all monitors when taking a screenshot and it gave me a headache, are there any flags for you provided by the portal to not trigger the flash? If not then could it be implemented if I brought this up on Mint's side to have that as an option? Please note that I am an end-user so feel free to redirect me somewhere else if I'm lost |

I believe the correct place to discuss this is with the Mint devs who are maintaining that portal and that compositor. As far I understand, flashing should not be a part of a xdg-desktop-portal, but rather the behavior of compositor when a screenshot is requested from it. This is the way thw data flows:
As far as I understand, which might be weong or incomplete, flashing happens at step 4. We at Flameshot can handle steps 2 and 6. Feel free to tag me in the issue in Mint side. |
