⚠️ Pre-release — unsigned build for early testing.
What
container-compose is a Docker Compose compatibility layer for Apple's container. It parses a Compose file and orchestrates the stable public container CLI, shipping both as a container CLI plugin (container compose up) and as a standalone container-compose binary. This release distributes an unsigned .pkg that installs the plugin to /usr/local/libexec/container-plugins/compose/.
Why
A beta to exercise the end-to-end release pipeline (build → .pkg → GitHub Release) and validate the new ComposeKit package split before a signed, stable 0.1.0. Expect rough edges — feedback welcome.
What changed since v0.0.1-beta1
- Rewired onto the split ComposeKit packages — a runtime-agnostic core (
ComposeKit) plus thecontainerruntime layer (ComposeKitContainer) — pinned to ComposeKit0.0.1-beta1. - Added Apache-2.0
LICENSE+NOTICE.
How to install
- Download
container-compose-0.0.1-beta2.pkgbelow. - It is unsigned and un-notarized, so Gatekeeper will block it. Either right-click the
.pkg→ Open, or clear quarantine and install from the terminal:xattr -d com.apple.quarantine container-compose-0.0.1-beta2.pkg sudo installer -pkg container-compose-0.0.1-beta2.pkg -target /
- Reload the
containerplugins, then use it:container system stop && container system start container compose up
Known limitations
- Unsigned — no Developer ID signature or notarization yet. The release workflow signs + notarizes + staples automatically once the signing secrets are configured (see
PACKAGING.md). - Apple Silicon only — Apple's
containeris arm64-only. - Early MVP — see the README Compatibility table for approximated / unsupported Compose fields.
