Task

Finalize the reference docs and run end-to-end QA on real hosts once all implementation sub-issues merge.

• REST API (docs/REST API/rest-api.md): finalize [API] Patch policies: Install new version when app is closed #49021 (patch_when_closed on create/update policy + update-package, patch on update-package, the skip install-result note).
• GitOps YAML (docs/Configuration/yaml-files.md): finalize [YAML] Patch policies: Install new version when app is closed #49022 (only_when_closed, the continuous_automations_enabled requirement, the pre_install_query.path rejection).
• Audit log (docs/Contributing/reference/audit-logs.md): finalize [Activity] Patch policies: Install new version when app is closed #49106 (install_skipped_when_app_open).
• Feature guide: update the patch-management / automatic-install guide to cover "patch only when app is closed."
• Website dependency: link Software catalog page: add "is <app> open?" query for each Fleet-maintained app #49105 (catalog "is app open?" query display) — separate issue, depends on this.
• Docs edits go to the release docs branch as their own PR (not bundled with code).
• Engineering QA (macOS + Windows real hosts): walk the parent story's test plan — Add FMA flows, Deploy edit flows, skip/no-retry behavior with an app held open across runs, the three ignore-managed-query paths (self-service, manual, setup experience), GitOps apply/generate round-trip, and migration/backward-compat for pre-release patch policies.

Condition of satisfaction

• All three doc PRs finalized and accurate to shipped behavior; feature guide updated; Software catalog page: add "is <app> open?" query for each Fleet-maintained app #49105 linked.
• Parent test plan executed on macOS and Windows; skip-not-fail, no-retry, and the three ignore paths verified on real hosts.
• Premium gating confirmed on both frontend and backend.
• Engineer + QA confirmation comments on Patch policies: Install new version when app is closed #39962.
