Airdrop Linux 1.5.0

This release adds native packages and sandbox packaging for x86_64 and ARM64, alongside the existing AppImage and script installers.

  • Native DEB and RPM packages install application code under /usr/lib/airdrop-linux and keep files, preferences and VAPID identity in the user's data directory. Run airdrop setup as your normal user after installation.
  • Package-managed installations use their package manager for updates. The application updater cannot overwrite managed files.
  • airdrop setup --migrate provides an explicit migration from a recorded script installation. Existing installations are never silently removed or adopted.
  • airdrop uninstall detects the installation source. --yes preserves personal data; deleting files, trash, keys, profiles and application backups requires --delete-data.
  • Flatpak and strict Snap recipes bundle the desktop, Node server and dufs, keep data inside their sandbox, and leave Tailscale on the host. Background sharing and explicit quit are supported without disabling Chromium's sandbox.

Installation and channel status

Publication scope: native APT/RPM and upstream Flatpak. Flatpak bundles are available below for x86_64 and ARM64. Signed repository updates retain the protected GitHub environment approval. AUR is deferred; Snap Store review is separate. This upstream Flatpak package is not a Flathub listing.

Download the DEB/RPM matching your architecture from this release, or use the AppImage/script distribution. Verify downloaded assets against SHA256SUMS.

APT and RPM repository publication is a separate signed GitHub Pages deployment. AUR, Flathub and Snap require their respective publication credentials and platform review; release assets alone do not mean those channels are live. See the installation and publication guide and validation report for current requirements and test boundaries.

Maintainer-provided repository signing-key fingerprint: 6513 D709 5839 7F60 D378 7A0C B93F 4FC1 E97C F3AE. Verify the downloaded public key against this fingerprint before trusting the repository.

Original release validation

64 automated Node tests and all 19 PR CI jobs passed. CI covers native builds on both architectures; installation, transfer and removal on Debian 13, Ubuntu 24.04/26.04, Fedora 43/44 and openSUSE Tumbleweed; AUR x86_64; Flatpak and Snap backend/desktop behavior on both architectures; Chromium and Electron checks; and disposable-key APT/RPM signature verification.

The configured production signing key also passed a protected, manually approved verification run against this draft's DEB/RPM assets. Checksums, both RPM package architectures, APT InRelease and RPM metadata signatures were verified. This run did not deploy a repository or publish a release.

Interactive portal consent, physical-desktop clipboard/session behavior, AUR ARM64 host execution, host Tailscale access and production repository installation remain separate acceptance checks. Store acceptance is pending.

Flatpak distribution — 2026-10-22

Application ID: io.github.fluffydisk.airdrop-linux.

Enable the standard Flathub remote for signed Freedesktop runtimes, verify the downloaded bundle against FLATPAK-SHA256SUMS, then install the matching local bundle with flatpak install --user ./airdrop-linux-1.5.0-ARCH.flatpak. Launch with flatpak run io.github.fluffydisk.airdrop-linux. The application itself comes from this upstream release.

Publication and public-download tests passed on native x86_64 and ARM64 runners. Validation covers offline assembly, manifest/repository lint, AppStream/desktop metadata, installation, file upload/download and ZIP contents, home-directory isolation, sandboxed Electron startup, X11 clipboard, native Wayland startup, managed updates and quit lifecycle. Fresh VMs also downloaded the actual public release assets, checked hashes, installed them and repeated application/transfer tests. Physical desktop input, interactive portal consent and real remote Tailscale devices remain separate checks.

The signed update repository is live. Native x86_64 and ARM64 VMs passed HTTPS repository installation, GPG verification and application/transfer tests.

Install Airdrop Linux (.flatpakref) · Add the signed repository (.flatpakrepo)

flatpak install --user https://fluffydisk.github.io/airdrop-linux/airdrop-linux.flatpakref
flatpak run io.github.fluffydisk.airdrop-linux

The repository uses the same maintainer signing fingerprint listed above. Subsequent versions can be installed with flatpak update.

The manifest and automation are AI-assisted upstream packaging. The app and dufs are assembled/built from checksum-pinned sources with offline npm/Cargo dependencies; Node comes from the signed Freedesktop SDK extension and Electron is the checksum-pinned official runtime. See the packaging and test details. Current Flathub policy prohibits this AI-assisted manifest and agent-created submission PRs, so no Flathub submission is represented as human-authored.

Click to select, double-click to open

  • Click a file or folder once to select it. Double-click a folder to enter it inside Airdrop.
  • Double-click a desktop file to open it in the computer's default application. Enter opens the focused item too.
  • Keep file cards in place when selection changes so double-clicks work reliably, including on filenames and icons.
  • Keep checkboxes dedicated to selection. Files in Trash must be restored before opening.
  • In the web/PWA interface, double-clicking a file starts its download so it can be opened on that device.
  • Validate shared-root boundaries and reject symbolic links, special files and invalid paths before handing a desktop file to its default application. Show application-opening failures in the file manager.

Updating

Existing installed v1.4.0 users can use Settings → Check for updates → Update. The installed updater replaces the desktop, server and web UI together, preserving files, settings and credentials. AppImage users use the matching replacement AppImage download; backend updates remain separate.

For a fresh full installation, download install-prebuilt.sh and run it as your normal user. Linux x64 and arm64 install bundles and AppImages are included. SHA256SUMS and airdrop-update.json cover the release assets.

Validation

47 automated tests, plus real Electron and Chromium interaction tests covering selection, double-clicks, keyboard opening, download behavior, default-application dispatch, failure messages and unsafe-path rejection. Both release architectures run the automated suite before packaging.

Files, clipboard and simpler installation

  • Upload selected or dropped files immediately, with a remembered ZIP option and retries for failed files only.
  • Manage folders inside the shared Airdrop root: grid/list views, format icons, navigation, multi-selection, copy to a new folder, downloads and recoverable deletion.
  • Paste clipboard images as PNG and text as UTF-8 files with Ctrl+V. Text fields keep their normal paste behavior.
  • Check stable releases from Settings. Installed copies can update the desktop, server and web UI together, with checksum verification and rollback.

Download options

Full setup without compiling: download install-prebuilt.sh and run it as your normal user. It selects your architecture, verifies the release bundle and runs the usual backend/system setup with the prebuilt application. No checkout or local Electron build is needed. System dependencies, sudo and Tailscale login may still be required.

curl -fL https://github.com/fluffydisk/airdrop-linux/releases/download/v1.4.0/install-prebuilt.sh -o install-prebuilt.sh
bash install-prebuilt.sh --version 1.4.0

One executable file: choose Airdrop-1.4.0-x86_64.AppImage (Intel/AMD 64-bit) or Airdrop-1.4.0-aarch64.AppImage (ARM64), enable execution and launch it. The AppImage contains the desktop companion; set up the local server, dufs and Tailscale separately. Its Settings opens replacement AppImage downloads; backend updates are separate. On systems restricting Electron's sandbox at temporary AppImage paths, use the prebuilt installer with its executable-specific AppArmor profile.

SHA256SUMS covers the public release assets. The .zip payloads and airdrop-update.json are used by the installed updater. The .tar.gz bundles are used by the stand-alone download script.

Existing installations

Quit Airdrop before upgrading. Keep the same AIRDROP_HOME if you configured a custom root. Shared files, credentials, subscriptions and preferences are retained. Older versions without the update button need this one installer-based upgrade first.

See the distribution guide for installation details, build instructions and the AUR / Debian / RPM / Flathub roadmap. No package-manager submissions are included in this release.
