I wasn't aware when re-shipping the FFI implementation that there was an issue with macOS that wasn't fixed on stable. (@dcharkes in the future if things like this come up please make sure I'm CC'd, so that I can take it into account when deciding what to ship from flutter/packages).

It looks like #178625 was very straightforward; @vashworth any objection to my requesting a cherry-pick to 3.38 so we can avoid another un-ship/re-ship cycle on path_provider_foundation?
