dosforge v0.2.2 — slim FreeDOS bundle

Patch release that publishes the slimmed-down FreeDOS payload.
No behavior changes; just a much smaller download.

What stayed in the FreeDOS bundle

  • Every root file: KERNEL.SYS, COMMAND.COM, BOOTSECT_FAT16.BIN,
    BOOTSECT_FAT32.BIN, MBR_FAT16.BIN, CONFIG.SYS, AUTOEXEC.BAT,
    FDCONFIG.SYS, FDAUTO.BAT.
  • FDOS/BIN/ in full — 84 files = 36 EXE + 31 COM + 10 SYS +
    a small support set (FREECOM/, COUNTRY.SYS, DISPLAY.EXE, …).
    All executables. No source code.

How to get the full FreeDOS userland

Two options if you want everything that used to ship:

  • --freedos-source auto — dosforge downloads the FreeDOS 1.4
    packages on demand from www.ibiblio.org.
  • --boot-assets-path /path/to/freedos-1.4/ — point dosforge at
    your own FreeDOS extraction; it'll use that tree wholesale.

Git history rewrite (force-push)

The same nine FDOS/<subdir> paths were also purged from every
reachable commit via git filter-repo so the repo's pack file
no longer carries them. The repo is ~4 MB smaller.

Anyone with a local clone needs to:

  • re-clone the repo, OR
  • run git fetch --all && git reset --hard origin/main
    (discards any local commits on main).

GitHub Release assets are keyed by release-ID (not by tag-SHA),
so v0.2.0 and v0.2.1 downloads remain intact and unchanged.
