Android 0.3.0 adds saved-room recovery, richer chat and a larger screen-sharing viewer.

  • Reopen saved rooms after leaving or restarting, retaining identities and creator controls. Search, rename and explicitly forget local rooms.
  • Read full message timestamps, search loaded chat, insert emoji and toggle encrypted reactions shared with the web client.
  • Optionally load verified public kind-0 names and pictures for the current visit.
  • Expand a shared screen, zoom and pan, reset with Fit to screen, or use Android picture-in-picture. Closing the viewer keeps the call running.
  • Fix Unicode display-name handling on Android.
  • Show room controls only after entry finishes, so an immediate Leave tap is accepted.

This is an installable debug-signed preview, version code 5, for Android 8.0+ on arm64-v8a and x86_64. It retains the signing certificate of the APK served by the website immediately before this release. The website and this release now distribute identical APK bytes.

The older GitHub v0.2.2 asset used a different debug certificate from the website APK. An installation from that older GitHub asset cannot update in place with this APK; keep it installed if you need its local state. A future build using a release key will also need a separate migration.

Validation covers 219 unit tests, debug/release lint and builds, plus nine API 35 emulator checks including encrypted storage, a forced process restart, chat interactions and actual rendered picture-in-picture video. The published APK passes signature verification and 16 KB ZIP alignment. SHA256SUMS is included.

An API 35 emulator also accepted an actual update from the previous website 0.2.2 APK to this 0.3.0 APK, retaining a marker in app-private storage. This confirms the website upgrade path at the package and storage level.

Physical-device and TalkBack acceptance, production release signing and complete protocol parity remain open. Android cannot obtain a Kindred proof through its UI, so gated invitations fail closed.
