Release list
KithMoot for Debian and Ubuntu (APT repository)
The signed APT repository for KithMoot desktop. Install the .deb once, or add kithmoot.sources and the keyring, and later releases arrive through your usual software updates. Not a release to download by hand.
KithMoot desktop 0.1.12
The sharing frame can now bring the KithMoot call window back to the front. Press KithMoot in the frame to restore and use the call; when focus moves away, the sharing boundary takes the front again.
This is the first signed release offered through KithMoot's Mac automatic updater. Active calls, shares, uploads and unsent work continue to block restart until it is safe and you approve it.
The Apple Silicon Mac archive is Developer ID signed, notarised and stapled. Linux x64 and ARM64 previews contain the same app code; Linux updates remain manual.
KithMoot desktop 0.1.11
KithMoot desktop preview 0.1.11 is the first Mac release with signed automatic updates.
After this manual install, packaged Apple Silicon builds check the ForgeSworn release feed, download a newer signed build in the background, and wait for explicit approval before restarting. Existing checks protect active calls, drafts, uploads and pending room actions.
The Mac archive is Developer ID signed, notarised and stapled. Linux archives remain preview builds and have not been physically tested on Linux desktops. The first complete automatic replacement will be verified when 0.1.12 is published.
SHA-256 checksums are included in SHA256SUMS.txt and on the public downloads page.
Desktop preview 0.1.10
Desktop preview 0.1.10 fixes chat and composer sizing on wide windows.
The Share an area pane now has four large resize handles, a clear Move bar, arrow-key controls, and stays above normal apps and across Mac fullscreen spaces. Drawing colours appear once per person in a bottom legend, which fades away with their last mark. Cancelling the sharing chooser also stops screen/audio tracks returned afterwards.
The Apple Silicon Mac archive is Developer ID signed by Epona Solutions Ltd, notarised by Apple and stapled. Gatekeeper assessment and signed-app smoke checks passed. Earlier previews were ad-hoc signed; upgrading may require granting screen-recording permission again.
Mac, Linux x64 and Linux ARM64 archives are attached with SHA-256 checksums. Updates are manual. Quit KithMoot before replacing the Mac app; on Linux extract the appropriate archive and run python3 install.py.
Automated native, browser, drawing and layout checks passed. Physical Mac system-audio/echo and permission-continuity checks remain open. Linux package contents and architectures were verified; physical Linux execution was not repeated for this release.
Release CI also exposed a relay-recovery bug: a timed-out connection handshake was treated as a refusal. The exact timeout now follows the existing bounded retry path, while explicit relay refusals remain terminal. A deterministic regression failed before the fix; all 36 relay/authentication tests passed afterwards.
Desktop preview 0.1.9
Screen sharing keeps sound on the device you chose. Listen here also works with the microphone and camera off, and rapid handovers no longer tie within the same second.
- Drawings are transmitted while the pointer moves, rather than waiting for release.
- Mac: Share an area opens a movable frame with a resize handle, click-through interaction and shared drawing. Only its cropped video is published. Keep the frame on one monitor; invalid bounds blank the share.
- Image attachments expand, support actual-size viewing and pop out.
- Desktop capture requests shared audio and Mac packaging includes the audio-capture permission description.
- Returning from Chat to the mobile Call tab keeps the call running.
The browser/PWA includes the listening, drawing, image-viewer and mobile-navigation changes. The floating desktop area is offered on Mac only.
Validation: Node 22/24 CI, browser acceptance, native Electron frame/chooser/resize checks, packaged Mac smoke, signature verification and package/source hash comparison. Publication and live download hashes are verified separately.
Preview limitations remain: the Mac package is ad-hoc signed and not notarised; updates are manual. Actual Mac capture, system sound, drawing alignment and echo still need physical acceptance. Linux binaries are built; Linux execution was not repeated for 0.1.9. Android outgoing device audio/native image viewing and native iPhone screen sharing are not included.
Download hashes are in SHA256SUMS.txt. Public downloads: https://kithmoot.forgesworn.dev/downloads/
Release evidence: PR #122 merged as d9cc570; all five checks passed in https://github.com/forgesworn/kithmoot/actions/runs/35436088374 (2,425 unit tests on Node 22 and 24; 180 Chromium, 100 Firefox and 106 WebKit acceptance tests). Five native desktop integration tests also passed. Production website/PWA release: 20260919T102345Z.
Live verification passed: all 54 website/PWA files and all three desktop archive downloads match local SHA-256 hashes. Desktop and phone-width browser checks passed without page errors or horizontal overflow; HTTP and security headers passed.
Desktop preview 0.1.8
Desktop preview 0.1.8: Apple Silicon macOS and Linux x64/ARM64. Built from the commit this release targets.
- Background blur and replacement no longer report usage statistics to Google (MediaPipe pinned to a version without the logger; the build fails if it returns).
- A background effect that fails shows only your backdrop, or a full blur, never your room, with a notice beside your picture; it retries by itself.
- A plain, even-coloured shirt is no longer partly replaced by the backdrop.
- A portrait screen share is shown whole: the no-camera name placeholder sits beside a share, not on it.
- Screen-sharing errors clear once sharing works, and on a Mac explain how to fix the Screen Recording permission.
On a Mac, every update changes the app's signature, so macOS may keep an old Screen Recording grant that no longer matches: remove KithMoot from Privacy & Security > Screen Recording, add it back, then quit and reopen KithMoot.
Linux: extract and run python3 install.py. Check downloads against SHA256SUMS.txt.
Desktop 0.1.7 preview
KithMoot desktop preview 0.1.7 fixes the cause of "I can see them but not hear them".
-
Two ends of a call could settle on different arrangements without either noticing: one side answered before its microphone was ready, its corrected answer arrived after the other side had already settled, and was discarded as a duplicate. Sound was sent for the rest of the call and never played. Both ends now notice the disagreement and put it right with one ordinary renegotiation. In our tests a four-person join failed this way 4 times in 11 before and 0 in 35 after.
-
A call with every camera off is a small strip with names and controls, and chat keeps the window.
-
A person's name no longer flashes as their joining name first. A plain word is only highlighted as a mention when the sender actually mentioned that person, and the @ picker inserts the name you can see.
-
Leave call is red wherever it appears.
-
Everything in 0.1.6 and 0.1.5.
-
Apple Silicon macOS 13 or later; Linux x64 and ARM64.
-
macOS preview is ad-hoc signed and not notarised. Linux packages are not repository-signed.
-
Replace the app or rerun the Linux installer to update; profiles are preserved.
Checksums are attached. Built from bcd90b0. Verified on a second, idle machine: 2390 unit tests, the call and media browser cases including a Firefox receiver, and the four-person join repeated. Still open: a real call between people, and physical microphone, camera and pop-out acceptance.
Desktop 0.1.6 preview
KithMoot desktop preview 0.1.6 fixes the window layout of 0.1.5, which squeezed chat into a narrow side drawer even when nothing was beside it.
-
Chat takes the whole window when nothing is beside it, and only becomes a side drawer while a call is showing something.
-
With nobody on a call the call area is one line, not an empty panel. The button says Start call, Join call or Leave call, whichever is true.
-
Leaving a call no longer flashes the join screen.
-
The projects list on the left can be hidden and shown.
-
💯 is among the reactions.
-
Everything in 0.1.5: calls that recover from a lost signal or relay connection, "muted" and "silenced for you" on tiles, each person beside their own shared screen, a working "Pop out", sea backgrounds.
-
Apple Silicon macOS 13 or later; Linux x64 and ARM64.
-
macOS preview is ad-hoc signed and not notarised. Linux packages are not repository-signed.
-
Replace the app or rerun the Linux installer to update; profiles are preserved.
Checksums are attached. Built from 4b192d9. The browser proof ran on a second machine (44 cases). Physical microphone, camera and pop-out acceptance is still open, as is a call with every camera off, where chat is still narrower than it should be.
Desktop 0.1.5 preview
KithMoot desktop preview 0.1.5 is about calls staying up. One-way sound, a joiner who heard nobody and a camera that vanished after a toggle are what it fixes.
-
Calls recover by themselves when a signal or a relay connection is lost, instead of leaving one direction silent.
-
A person who muted themselves shows "muted" on their tile; someone you silenced shows "silenced for you".
-
When two people share, each sits beside their own screen and both stay in view. Chat slides in and out.
-
"Pop out" on a shared screen now opens its own window.
-
Sea backgrounds, with fish, under "Hide what is behind you".
-
Leaving and tidying a room removes your read position too.
-
Apple Silicon macOS 13 or later; Linux x64 and ARM64.
-
macOS preview is ad-hoc signed and not notarised. Linux packages are not repository-signed.
-
Replace the app or rerun the Linux installer to update; profiles are preserved.
-
Works in calls with the web client and with Android 0.6.4; the fixes apply on the device that has them.
Checksums are attached. Built from 9c84596. Automated package and browser proof is separate from physical microphone, camera and pop-out acceptance, which is still open.
Desktop 0.1.4 preview
KithMoot desktop preview 0.1.4 brings private notification banners, unread Dock/launcher counts and an optional Zen bell to macOS and Linux. It includes smoother room switching, separate phone call/chat views in the shared client, expandable long text and encrypted text attachments, clipboard image handling and message-to-task actions.
- Apple Silicon macOS 13 or later; Linux x64 and ARM64.
- macOS preview is ad-hoc signed and not notarised. Linux packages are not repository-signed.
- Keep the app open or minimised to receive notifications. Quitting stops delivery. Calls mute the bell; message previews are opt-in.
- Linux icon badges depend on launcher support. Physical GNOME/KDE/Wayland acceptance remains open.
- Replace the app or rerun the Linux installer to update; profiles are preserved.
Checksums are attached. Automated package and browser proof is separate from physical microphone, camera and notification acceptance.
