Beta engine. Not installed automatically. This is the first engine build that can execute Apple's Game Porting Toolkit (D3DMetal) payload, built from CrossOver 25 sources. It exists for testing alongside issue #163; the stock v3.1.1 engine remains the default for everyone.

What this is

  • Wine 10.0 built from CrossOver 25 sources with personality-routine support for builtin modules, which is what running D3DMetal requires (gptkCapable: true)
  • D3D12 works under an imported GPTK payload: feature level 12_2, resource binding tier 3
  • wine-mono 9.4.0 and wine-gecko 2.47.4 bundled, same form as the stock engine
  • DXVK 1.10.3 and DXMT 0.80 payloads carried over byte-identical from the stock v3.1.1 runtime, so existing bottles keep their graphics backends
  • Known limitation: Steam's login stalls under this Wine base (a Chromium-internal retry loop in Steam's webhelper, not a Wine bug; details in #163). If you need Steam, stay on stock or keep a second bottle.

Requirements

  • Whisky 3.6.0 or later (the Game Porting Toolkit import feature ships in 3.6.0)
  • To test D3DMetal you also need your own download of Apple's Game Porting Toolkit, imported via Settings > Game Porting Toolkit

Install

  1. Quit Whisky.
  2. Back up your current runtime: mv ~/Library/Application\ Support/com.franke.Whisky/Libraries ~/Libraries-stock-backup
  3. Extract: tar -xzf Libraries.tar.gz -C ~/Library/Application\ Support/com.franke.Whisky/
  4. Launch Whisky. Settings should report the engine can run D3DMetal once a GPTK payload is imported.

Roll back

Quit Whisky, delete the beta Libraries folder, and restore your backup (mv ~/Libraries-stock-backup ~/Library/Application\ Support/com.franke.Whisky/Libraries), or delete it and let Whisky re-download the stock engine on next launch.

Provenance

Built by CI from frankea/winecx-gptk at commit 431f8d3 (build run), which pins the winecx source commit, nixpkgs revision, and llvm-mingw release. The build harness and patches are the work of @dappermint; the file manifest of this build is identical to their verified reference artifact. Graphics payloads were carried over unmodified from the v3.1.1 runtime.
