Wine Libraries v4.5.105-beta.1 (GPTK, Wine 11.15)
Pre-releaseBeta engine. Not installed automatically. First beta of the Wine 11.15 lineage: CrossOver 26.3's changes rebased onto upstream wine-11.15 by @dappermint, replacing the Wine 10 line (v4.0.0-beta.2) as the promotion candidate. It exists for testing alongside issue #163; the stock v3.1.1 engine remains the default for everyone.
What changed since v4.0.0-beta.2
- Upstream base moved from a frozen CrossOver 25 Wine 10.0 to current wine-11.15. Upstream grew its own cross-process layer hosting after 11.0, so the four child-window patches the Wine 10 line carried collapse into one (win32 visibility and z-order mirroring for hosted layers, the part Chromium clients need). Tracking upstream is now sustainable, which is the main reason this line gets promoted and the old one does not.
- Fifteen upstream dev releases of winegstreamer and winedmo work ride along, so media decode is healthier than on the CrossOver 26.3 base itself.
- wine-mono 11.2.0 (what the 11.15 tree asks for) and faudio 26.08 with the WMA decoder fixes, now committed in the source tree.
- Unchanged: gecko 2.47.4, gstreamer 1.26.3, MoltenVK 1.4.2, DXVK 1.10.3 (still no d3d9, still deliberate), DXMT 0.80.
- Built at Whisky's floor. Every binary in this artifact is minos 15.0 against the 15.5 SDK, verified along with an undefined-symbol sweep before publishing, and boot-tested on macOS 26. For contrast, the upstream project's own v4.5.0 artifact is macOS 27 only (dappermint/winecx-gptk#3); this build is not affected.
Validated on this source tree so far (upstream's build, M-series hardware): Steam's UI end to end, D3D12 at feature level 12_2 with resource binding tier 3 and SM 6.6 through D3DMetal, DXVK D3D11, and the media stack. Not yet validated on this exact artifact: a real DX12 title launched from Steam. That acceptance test is the top gate before any of this becomes the default engine, and reports here or on #163 are the fastest way to move it.
Known caveats:
- One non-reproducible Steam renderer wedge was seen upstream under WINEMSYNC=1 with the machine under heavy load. If Steam goes black on a busy machine, run that session with WINEMSYNC=0.
- The CrossOver lineage quirk from beta.2 carries over: bottles created on the stock engine keep their profile under
users/<name>while this runtime looks inusers/crossover. Symptom is an app starting with an empty profile. Tracked as an app-side fix; a manual symlink works meanwhile. - Requirements unchanged: Whisky 3.6.0 or later, and your own download of Apple's Game Porting Toolkit imported via Settings > Game Porting Toolkit to test D3DMetal.
Install
- Quit Whisky.
- Back up your current runtime:
mv ~/Library/Application\ Support/com.franke.Whisky/Libraries ~/Libraries-stock-backup - Extract:
tar -xzf Libraries.tar.gz -C ~/Library/Application\ Support/com.franke.Whisky/ - Launch Whisky. Settings should report the engine as 4.5.105 and GPTK-capable.
Roll back
Quit Whisky, delete the beta Libraries folder, and restore your backup, or delete it and let Whisky re-download the stock engine on next launch.
Provenance
Built by CI on a hosted macos-15 runner from frankea/winecx-gptk at commit aa652a1 (build run), which pins the winecx source (c2cce0e, the wine1115 branch: CrossOver 26.3's diff merged onto wine-11.15 with every patch in-tree), the nixpkgs revision, and the toolchain. The build harness and the rebase are the work of @dappermint. Relocatability, dlopen, and window smoke checks run in CI before packaging.
