Issue with backdated Repack

Information about bug

Here are the steps to reproduce the issue:

Create and Submit a Stock Entry Receipt for 100 qty of item with a posting date of last week.

Create and Submit a Stock Entry Issue for 100 qty of item with a posting date of now.

Create a Stock Entry repack with a posting date between last week and now.
Add a line to consume 100 qty of item.
Add another line to produce 102 of item.

If we try to submit, we get this error:

This example is over simplified, the real use case is a Finished Product that was manufactured, and is now all sold. Then the user realize he forgot to consume some raw materials. So he try to submit a repack dated right after the manufacture entry, that consume finished product + missing raw material and produce finished product.

Not able to understand the issue, however, the message you are getting is that there is no stock on the selected date and time so you can check the sequence of transactions not only with date but also time and the issue should get resolved.

The item is newly created, no past transactions.

Steps to Reproduce:

1. Create and Submit a Stock Entry (Material Receipt)

   • Item: Test Item
   • Qty: 100
   • Posting Date: April 1, 2025

2. Create and Submit a Stock Entry (Material Issue)

   • Item: Test Item
   • Qty: 100
   • Posting Date: April 11, 2025

3. Create a Stock Entry (Repack)

   • Posting Date: April 6, 2025
   • Add two lines:
     • Test Item, Qty: -100 (consume)
     • Test Item, Qty: 102 (produce)

4. Attempt to Submit the Repack entry.

Expected Behavior

The Repack should succeed — it consumes 100 but produces 102, so there’s no net negative stock. Even though a later transaction (Material Issue on April 11) removes stock, that’s after this entry.

Actual Behavior

Submission fails with a stock validation error, as if there’s insufficient stock on April 6.

Is Allow negative stock enabled while creating the item or before creating a repack entry? Or is it not enabled at all?

Allow Negative Stock is disabled both for the item and in the Stock Settings.

Hi,

To do a stock entry (repack), you must cancel the second entry of Stock Entry (Material Issue). This is not a bug hence closing the issue.

Thanks for the follow-up, but I believe this deserves a second look.

Canceling the Material Issue entry is not a valid solution in our real-world scenario. The Repack is dated April 6, and the Material Issue is dated April 11. At the time of the Repack, the stock is fully available.

The system does an incorrect stock validation error when backdating. This makes it impossible to accurately correct or record transactions that are discovered late — a common situation in manufacturing and stock management.

To clarify:

At the Repack's posting time (April 6), the stock level is 100 — there has been no Issue yet.

The Repack consumes 100 and produces 102, leaving a net of +2.

Only after this (on April 11), the stock is issued out.

So, from a timeline perspective, there's no negative stock at any point unless the system is incorrectly factoring future entries when validating backdated transactions.

That seems like an unintended behavior in the stock validation logic.
