After using River on an iPad and an Android phone (Pixel 7a) quite a bit I have some thoughts on some particular pain points in the UI.

Where the UI is designed to assume mouse-over usage, on a touch device this causes problems. Most notably, it is not clear on a mobile device how to quote-reply to the messages of others and how to edit/delete your own messages. Currently you just have to know where to press around a message to get the action you require. I suggest a hamburger or kebab style menu button on messages to bring up options for touch users or possibly just a long-press on a message to bring up relevant options.

On a mobile phone in particular, trying to switch rooms is difficult as the hamburger button in the top left is too close to the room name and description. It is far too easy to open up the room details window by mistake.

Strange inconsistencies in room vertical scroll positioning when switching rooms, which seems more apparent on a mobile phone, means you are often far from the end of the room history for easy following of new messages. This can frequently require a lot of vertical scrolling for multi-room users. I suggest at least a downward-pointing arrow icon or similar in the bottom right of the message history that pops up on touch devices when the current room history is not locked to the bottom and ready to auto-scroll on new messages.
