Release list
1.6
This is a very important update. The following has been added:
- Internet
- Cryptography
The Internet is the biggest change, just so you know. One more thing - this is very important: there are citywide power outages, so commits will be infrequent
1.5 Refactor
For a long time, starting with version 1.0, there was just a single file in src/boot, while many files that are included first appeared in src/kernel, so I moved them to src/boot, and boot.asm is no longer alone. Man, I made up quite a story there. In reality, the refactor actually happened, and it wasn’t because it was unfair, but because I’m a perfectionist. I couldn’t sleep at night thinking, "Why on earth did I create a folder with just one file and nothing else?" especially since a ton of files and functions had appeared in src/kernel that could have been moved there, so that’s exactly what I did
1.5 NVMe Support
I added an NVMe driver for modern computers. I don't know what else to say, and now the see command displays the size in kilobytes.
1.5
Unlimited update! A lot has been added to Katela during this time. Some of the major updates include the addition of user mode (ring 3), custom shell scripts, and one of the main things I’ve been working on: a proper file system. Back then, I was young and didn’t know how to build a proper file system, so everything was stored in memory and there was a strict limit of just 16 files - which is far too few for normal use, but now it all depends on the size of your drive. Of course, I’m thinking about developing drivers for newer drives, such as NVMe or something else
1.4
To be honest, I didn't know version 1.4 would come out so quickly. The thing is, they've added so many features for developers that it's no longer just some random kernel - it can now be considered a real kernel 100%. In short, here's what I've added:
- IDT
- PIC
- PIT
- Simple Scheduler
- Task Trampoline
Katela can now run multiple tasks that get automatically preempted by a timer - no more single busy-loop kernel
1.3.1.01
I haven't forgotten about the .iso file, it's just that this is more of a technical version and nothing major has changed. I added a separate “panic” command that can be used to trigger a kernel panic without breaking Katela components. Also, I moved the output of the “help” command from kernel.c to standard.c because that command was starting to take up a lot of space
Note: If the version number ends with .01, .02, e.t.c, then it is either a very minor version that doesn't introduce any significant new features, or it is a technical version
The grand 1.3
After my long hiatus - about a month and a half or less - I’m finally releasing version 1.3 of Katela. I know that very few people will find out about Katela anytime soon, and it’s possible that no one will ever find out. But I’ll keep developing Katela so that it at least has a chance to make history. To be honest, it’s really hard and I’m too lazy to count and list every change since version 1.2, but here are the most important ones:
- Katela is switching from the MIT License to the GPL v3.0
- New commands have been added
- More technical optimization
- Audio driver added
And lots more. See y'all soon :)
1.2
1.1
1.0 Release
Well, now you are seeing the grand release of Katela. So far, in this version, you can find out information about the OS using the 'info' command, you can find out information about the distribution, and there is also a greeter screen at terminal
