Photos Backup 0.1.0
Account connection now works on iOS 17, and the Safari web extension is gone entirely.
Why this release
On iOS 17, the Safari web extension could not read Google's HttpOnly oauth_token cookie — browser.cookies only returns non-HttpOnly cookies there (it worked on iOS 18, where earlier testing happened). Account setup now runs in an in-app WKWebView and reads the token from the app's own WKHTTPCookieStore, which returns HttpOnly cookies on iOS 16, 17, and 18 alike.
Highlights
- Fixes account connection on iOS 17. Verified on a real iPhone.
- No Safari extension. Nothing to enable in Settings, no App Group, no
photosbackup://URL handoff — the whole flow is in-app. - Sign in from onboarding or Settings → Connect Account; the EmbeddedSetup page may keep spinning after I agree, which is expected — the app captures the token and closes the window on its own.
- Minimum iOS stays 16.0.
Install
PhotosBackup.ipa is unsigned — sideload with SideStore/AltStore and it re-signs on device with your Apple ID (free Apple ID works). See the README for steps.
