Welcome to the MIDIchlorians wiki!

The initial aim of this project was to provide an auditory companion to my dissertation work involving galaxies in the local Universe. It has since evolved into a user-friendly interface to generate nifty soundbites of a given galaxy's rhythmic structure -- with the instruments and modifications (and even FITS file) of one's choosing.

Following nearly two years of intermittent development, concurrent with my navigating the actual work constituting my dissertation research, I released V1 of MIDIchlorians. It is this version that the following instructions are based on, but I will report back periodically to ensure that the notes are compatible with the current version's functionality. Indeed, there remain a few additional features I would like to include in the future (including a nifty widget which superimposes the WAV files of a single sonified galaxy in two different wavelengths, and perhaps something which incorporates elliptical photometry...and it would be nice to have an in-GUI animation to highlight which note corresponds to what note as the full file plays).

Though users can use any FITS image, my hope is that this program will have some form of astronomical application, whether it be scientific, outreach-based, or otherwise.
