GeoD Global 0.2.1 — updates and preview recovery

Choose a tag to compare

@gaopengbin gaopengbin released this 22 Oct 06:14

GeoD Global 0.2.1

This release improves map preview recovery and failure diagnostics, and opens the independent signed Windows update channel.

  • Map previews retry temporary connection and upstream errors within a bounded deadline. A failed metadata request no longer leaves the map waiting indefinitely. Retry after restoring the local service is supported.
  • Anonymous failure events now identify the operation stage, a fixed reason code, HTTP status when known and retry count. Raw errors, coordinates, credentials, local paths and source URLs are excluded. Historical events cannot be reconstructed retroactively.
  • The desktop checks for new releases automatically and shows a compact update dialog. Download requires confirmation, and installation requires a separate restart confirmation. Active downloads, processing and Agent work must finish before installation.
  • Updates require a Global-only, version-bound Minisign signature. A matching, sufficiently smaller zstd delta can reconstruct the complete installer; missing/stale base files, failed transfers or invalid reconstruction fall back to the full signed installer. The complete installer is verified again before installation.
  • Custom installation locations are upgraded in place. Installer startup waits for the updating process to exit. Projects, model connections, downloaded files and preferences remain outside the installer payload.

Upgrading from 0.2.0

Install 0.2.1 manually once. The public 0.2.0 installer did not embed a production update endpoint or trusted Global public key and therefore cannot receive this release's prompt. After installing this release, future versions can use the built-in updater. The installer caches one complete installation package to support future delta downloads. If that cache is unavailable, the full update remains supported.

Updater signatures authenticate release bytes; they are separate from Windows Authenticode. Windows may still show the existing unsigned-publisher warning. This release does not add or change data-provider entitlements, hosted-model login requirements or telemetry opt-out choices.

Release acceptance

  • The final installer is 310,725,879 bytes, SHA-256 4619ae0e644ac2abb076ae8118d6b8efc53b52391d75997064ac50d87abcf01e.
  • The real Rust updater SDK checked the public HTTPS manifest, downloaded the entire CDN installer, and verified its Global-only, version-bound signature and exact bytes.
  • Actual Windows installer execution verified both the public 0.2.0 full-package upgrade and a delta upgrade in an isolated install directory. Missing-base and corrupted-patch cases successfully fell back to the complete signed installer. The payload was verified file by file, and existing application-data files were unchanged by SHA-256.
  • Delta acceptance used an explicitly QA-only, non-solid repack of the original 0.2.0 payload. Its 212,119,756-byte patch restored this exact 0.2.1 installer, saving 31.73%. That baseline is not a public release. The historical public 0.2.0 solid-compressed installer has negligible delta savings and uses the full manual bootstrap upgrade.
  • This is Windows 11 host acceptance; it does not assert a new clean-OS test or native-window restart acceptance. Update dialogs were verified separately with the shared UI components.
  • Windows, Linux and workflow checks passed. The payload source is 46e15ff1a7ce9c357655132cbf181fbff8efc35e; follow-up 2dbbef24711ab4da8c915b6d0721c6ddac7ee660 adjusts only the full Explore journey and hosted Windows UI tests' overall time budgets from 5 to 15 seconds, with all assertions and individual wait deadlines retained and no runtime changes. The accepted installer was not rebuilt or substituted.

GeoD Global 0.2.0 — Windows desktop

GeoD Global brings source selection, map exploration, reviewed downloads and
local results into one Windows workspace. Local use and your own model
connection require no Global sign-in.

What's included

  • A classified picker with 133 directory entries across 17 groups. These
include products, protocols and local formats: 110 Ready, 2 Auth, 21 Planned.
Connector status is not a claim that every collection or file was tested.
  • Compact result lists, multiple selection, map preview and a shared final
download review. Source information and technical details use information
windows. Downloads, validation and saved results retain their actual status.
  • Catalog searches load the latest 100 results first. Additional pages load
on demand; NAIP prefers the most recent acquisition year. Changing the area
does not automatically enumerate the full historical catalog.
  • A conversational Agent with your own model connection, task confirmation,
persistent jobs and result inspection. Home conversations and Explore sidebar
tasks retain their originating scene when manual exploration changes.
  • Source-resolution-aware map zoom limits and compact download progress in chat.
  • Anonymous usage statistics on by default, without account sign-in. Settings
provides off controls and preserves saved opt-outs. Statistics exclude messages,
credentials, exact locations, scene IDs, file paths and account identities.
Development and production observations are separate. See
    the data boundary.

Download and install

Use the Windows x64 setup EXE, or extract the complete portable ZIP.
Microsoft Edge WebView2 Evergreen is required. Separate Node, Rust, Python or
system GDAL installations are unnecessary. Closing the window keeps the tray
process running; quit from the tray before upgrading.

The release includes exact first-party source and dependency notices. Verify
SHA256SUMS.txt and artifacts.json. Executables are unsigned; checksums do
not establish a Windows publisher signature. Automatic signed updates are not
enabled, so upgrades use a new downloaded installer.

Supported scope

NASA, GSCloud and other protected sources retain their own account and product
requirements. Google Earth Engine uses your own project and may consume its
quota. Planned entries are not complete integrations. Source-specific limits,
licenses and numerical meanings stay visible in the product and documentation.
Previewed imagery, rendered service exports and original scientific bands remain
distinct delivery types.

Local data and supported processing remain on your computer. Data requests
contact their providers; model requests contact your configured model provider.
Hosted models, live paid services, cloud synchronization and general cross-grid
processing are not included in this release. Windows ARM64, macOS and Linux
installers are not provided.

First-party code is GPL-3.0-only. Dataset and component licenses remain separate.
Please report reproducible issues without keys, private project data or passwords.

Acceptance

Installer and portable first-launch defaults and actual receiver uploads verified. Live search → review → two fresh SCL downloads → local map display passed. Acceptance scope.

GeoD Global 0.2.0-rc.4 — Agent Windows evaluation

This Windows 10/11 x64 prerelease brings the conversational Agent into the packaged local workspace. Describe a place and the result you need; the Agent resolves supported boundaries, searches supported data, previews scenes and submits complete tasks for your confirmation. Local jobs retain sources, processing records and file validation.

What is included

  • Codex-powered Agent with streaming conversation, secure model connections and probes, option cards, task review, goal progress and bounded continuation. The bundled Node/Codex runtime is included; users supply their own supported model connection.
  • A compact 2D directory: 85 entries / 16 groups, 31 available, 6 authorization required and 48 planned. Counts include products, protocols and local formats, not 85 satellites or universally enabled provider collections.
  • Administrative-polygon defaults, scene-footprint coverage checks and a right-side map preview with multiple scenes. Verified district/county boundaries can refine a city without substituting an unrelated extent.
  • Original-file download, compatible-grid crop/mosaic and source-pixel inspection. Scientific/quality workflows retain documented product limits.
  • Independent Global email, Google and GitHub account entry, system-browser consent and native PKCE/loopback handoff. Guest use remains available; tokens stay in the native vault. Global identity does not authorize models or data-provider services and does not enable cloud sync.
  • Local projects, history, themes, settings, notification/update interfaces and system-tray background jobs. Production signed update/announcement channels are not enabled in this evaluation.

Real workflow evidence

The 3:10 recording follows one Manhattan / New York County task: live Earth Search Sentinel-2 L2A search, native polygon/footprint checks, human approvals, download of S2A_18TWL_20261008_1_L2A, polygon crop, and inspection of the same newly generated 1211 × 2253, 10 m, EPSG:32618 GeoTIFF. Download and crop jobs succeeded. Waiting periods are shortened and marked. Footprint coverage is not cloud-free coverage. Copernicus Sentinel data (2026), via Earth Search.

That recording used the development app before packaging. It proves that workflow, not every source, installation or account sign-in acceptance.

Downloads and requirements

Use the portable .zip or per-user -setup.exe. Both include desktop, CLI, Agent runtime, documentation, exact source archive and third-party notices. Extract the complete ZIP. Microsoft Edge WebView2 Evergreen Runtime is required; the installer checks but does not install it. No separately installed Node, Rust, Python or GDAL is required.

Check SHA256SUMS.txt and artifacts.json. First-party code is GPL-3.0-only; datasets and components retain their terms. These are unsigned evaluation builds, not the latest stable release. Quit through the system tray before manual upgrades; uninstall preserves data.

Acceptance gaps and limits

  • Account endpoints and native protocol tests pass; real email delivery, human desktop consent and subsequent session restore need provider-by-provider human acceptance.
  • NASA Earthdata/Copernicus account setup and catalogs exist. HLS, SRTM, VIIRS and Sentinel-2 SAFE protected original downloads remain disabled pending real-account verification.
  • The 48 planned entries have no downloader. Commercial high-resolution entitlement is not included. Arbitrary cross-grid processing/general reprojection is outside the crop/mosaic scope.
  • Fresh-machine installation, interactive upgrade/uninstall and retention checks remain separate. Windows Authenticode signing, production signed updater and announcement channels are unfinished.
  • There is no paid checkout, subscription/credit balance, cloud storage or cross-device job sync. This is a local evaluation workflow, not a completed commercial billing lifecycle.

See product-chain status, account details, provider status and update boundaries. Exact source commit and build run are appended by the publishing workflow.

GeoD Global 0.1.0-rc.3 — Windows release candidate

Independent Windows 10/11 x64 geospatial desktop workspace with English and
Simplified Chinese UI. This prerelease is available for evaluation; the complete
product plan remains in development.

Included in this candidate

  • Search public Sentinel-2, Landsat, MODIS, Sentinel-1 RTC, NAIP and Copernicus
DEM catalogues. The source selector distinguishes original-file availability
from online previews, previews loaded after selection, and footprint-only
    catalogues.
  • Preview MODIS NDVI/EVI, MODIS reflectance RGB, radar polarizations and public
GLO-30/GLO-90 elevation on the exploration map. Nine public source entries have
live catalogue and map-display checks in the documented test region. Preview
images are distinct from completed original-file downloads.
  • Create named multi-scene projects, add more scenes to an existing project,
download supported assets, and inspect files and original pixel values in the
local workspace. Compatible products support documented crop, mosaic,
scientific RGB and quality-filter workflows, with verified delivery bundles.
  • Use persistent thumbnail caching, compact file/task cards, resizable panels,
    a GeoD-branded desktop header, light/dark themes and system-tray background
tasks. Closing the window keeps the application running; use the tray's
Quit action to stop it before upgrading.
  • Use the shared local CLI and MCP tools for supported jobs, projects, raster
inspection and recipes. MCP mutations require explicit write enablement.
An in-app conversational Agent is planned and is not included in this release.

The candidate also retains documented map-service, vector, offline-tile and
bounded 3D workflows. Each has its own support and acceptance limits; these do
not imply arbitrary GIS format or processing support.

Fixes in this release

  • Compile Windows credential decoding only on Windows and in its portable tests,
keeping strict Linux checks clean without disabling diagnostics.
  • Restore clean Windows/Linux dependency installation with the complete locked
optional peer graph; existing dependency versions are unchanged.
  • Accept verified legacy NAIP catalogue identities and their matching 0.6 m
    four-band aerial COGs.
  • Accept verified Sentinel-1 RTC platform and polarization identities, including
    supported Sentinel-1C/1D catalogue records.
  • Retry temporary preview failures with bounded waits, cancel obsolete requests
when switching sources, and retain a visible retry action on persistent errors.
  • Keep scene-footprint fills transparent once imagery is displayed, preserving
the preview's actual colours and grayscale values.

Downloads

Choose the portable .zip or the per-user -setup.exe installer. Both contain the desktop application, CLI, examples, documentation, provenance and third-party notices. Verify downloads against SHA256SUMS.txt; artifacts.json records the exact source commit and artifact sizes and hashes.

First-party code is GPL-3.0-only. Both packages include the license and a source
archive for the exact built commit, with build instructions and locked dependency
manifests. Third-party components and data retain their own notices and terms.

Requires Windows 10/11 x64 and Microsoft Edge WebView2 Evergreen Runtime. The installer does not install WebView2. User data is retained on uninstall.

Evaluation status

These binaries and installer are unsigned. This is a prerelease and is not
promoted to the latest stable release. The release workflow checks Linux/Windows
tests, production compilation, packaged CLI startup, archive contents, source
provenance and downloaded release asset hashes. Those checks do not establish
native GUI or clean-machine installation, upgrade and uninstall acceptance.

NASA Earthdata and Copernicus account setup is included. HLS, SRTM, VIIRS and
Copernicus SAFE protected original downloads remain disabled pending real-account
verification; their catalogues and footprints are available. No account is
required for the documented public-source workflows.

Processing is limited to supported products, coordinate systems and compatible
grids. General raster reprojection, arbitrary science formats, automatic updates
and the in-app Agent assistant are not included. Data use remains subject to each
provider's terms. Source downloads, previews and provider-original archives are
separate capabilities.

The source commit and build run are linked below. The README, provider status and
public-preview verification documentation at that commit describe the exact
tested scope. No cloud service, payment integration or commercial data entitlement
is implied.
