codec 3.0.0
Version 3.0.0 of CoDEC introduces breaking changes to the way CoDEC data is saved and read, but not to the underlying CoDEC data specifications. The pins package can now be used to read CoDEC data tables from the online CoDEC-specific pin board hosted on GitHub. More details below:
- Use
pinsfor writing and reading to/from a CoDEC board (codec_board()) available online instead of usingdpkgto read from releases online - Objects are now
codec_tbl(codec tables), and the functions areas_codec_tbl(),read_codec(), andcodec_list() - Versions of the codec board can be defined using
codec_board()based on GitHub release tags for thecodecpackage - New function
write_codec_pin()to be used by developers to update CoDEC board with pinned CoDEC tables; instead of using GitHub releases, data are tracked in theassets/data/folder in the online repository (as json pins); in addition to writing thecodec_tblmetadata, an internal function (sesh()) is used to capture key details about the R session that was used to create thecodec_tbl - Updated
codec_interpolate()andcodec_as_sf()to better support year and month columns - Simplified online data commons article to be standalone html document
- Updated some geomarker methods and metadata for different CoDEC tables; removed voter_participation
- Created internal data object (
codec_latest_annual) that is all CoDEC data harmonized to the latest annual values at 2020 tract geographies (if data is at monthly level, then last complete year is averaged and renamed with monthly. This itself is acodec_tblobject with metadata and names changed to reflect the latest annual harmonization.
