My memory is quite foggy now, but I even recall something about PB using some third party licenced solution for animation, with proprietary formats and all and that meant it's extremely unlikely anything will ever happen.

That is correct, Gothic 3 uses the EMotionFX library and its proprietary formats for its animations.
Over the years I revisited the field of animation in Gothic 3 multiple times, until at the beginning of 2024 a renewed interest in animation import/export motivated me to revisit the second iteration of my Blender addon and the resolve the remaining issues.
