v0.1.0: First public release

@gestevao04 gestevao04 released this 21 Oct 20:24

First public release of Dota 2 Draft Overlay: a free, open-source overlay that reads the picks from your screen during the draft and suggests counters and synergies using current win-rate data. Unofficial, not affiliated with Valve.

What it does

  • Reads the draft from your screen. It matches the ten pick portraits at the top of the draft screen against Dota's hero portraits. It only looks at pixels on your own screen: no game memory, no injection, no information about other players.
  • Counter and synergy suggestions. Win-rate advantage against the enemy picks plus synergy with your allies, with small-sample shrinkage so rare matchups don't look better than they are.
  • Position and Meta filters. Only suggest heroes actually played in your position, or only the most played ones.
  • First-pick meta table. With nothing picked yet, it shows win% and pick% per hero for your position.
  • Settings window. Enter your free Stratz token, choose your bracket and how many weeks of meta to use, and download all data with a button. No terminal needed.
  • Remembers your team, position, Meta and slot between runs.

Requirements

  • Windows, Python 3.9+ (there is no installer yet, so you run it from source)
  • Dota 2 in borderless windowed mode, 16:9
  • A free Stratz API token (the Settings window links to where to get it)

Quick start

pip install -r requirements.txt
python draft_overlay.py

The Settings window opens on the first run. Paste your token, click Update everything, close it, and start drafting. See the README for details.

Known limitations

  • Tested on 2560x1440 with the default UI scale. Other 16:9 resolutions should work (the slot boxes scale), but they are untested.
  • Only the Legend / Ancient bracket has been tested. Other brackets are offered but unverified.
  • Players with cosmetic hero sets can show portraits that differ from the default art, which can cause misreads. A learn command is included for this (see the README).
  • It cannot draw over true exclusive fullscreen.
  • Valve's rules about third-party tools can change. Use at your own risk.

Feedback

This is a first version and I'd like to hear how it behaves on your setup. If something is misread, please open an issue with your resolution, Dota's display mode, and (if you can) the files from the --dev Snap button.

Credits and legal

Win-rate data comes from STRATZ, and hero list data from OpenDota. Dota 2 and its artwork belong to Valve. Hero portraits are not included in this repository; they are downloaded to your own machine.

Free and open source (MIT). If it helps your drafts and you'd like to chip in, donations are optional and unlock nothing: see the README.
