Call your contacts, even with no Internet, and send short videos in any chat
You can now call your contacts. A call to someone nearby goes over a Wi-Fi Direct link with no Internet, a
call to someone farther away goes over the Internet, and when neither works it becomes a walkie-talkie over
the mesh. Short videos go in any chat now, Nearby included. Knit shrinks each one to about 3 MB and keeps the
first 61 seconds.
If you support Knit on Ko-fi or GitHub Sponsors, you now get Knit Anywhere, which carries your photos and
files over the Internet when no phone nearby can and gets calls through that would otherwise fail, and a
supporter badge you can show on your photo. Low-power mode turns Wi-Fi Aware off to save battery and
switches on by itself with Battery Saver. You also get a notification when someone reacts to your message,
and @everyone in group chats. Downloads over 1 MB that only Bluetooth can bring now wait for your tap, and a
photo that has reached the other phone in a private chat no longer goes up to your relay.
Fixed: Knit closing after a far-off phone left Wi-Fi Aware range, quotes of words the sender never wrote,
group messages left unreadable after someone left or restored a backup, an iPhone in the background losing
its Bluetooth link, a stutter after connecting to a relay, encryption resets with no reason behind them, and
a Bluetooth link that looked connected for half an hour after it stopped working.
