📝 Recommended Update v27.0.0 - Recommended for All Users

This major release is strongly recommended for all users, especially Stakers. v27.0.0 extends the recent work to fully resolve the wallet balance inaccuracy that could appear after extended periods of staking, and ships a substantial expansion of the Lynx storage network: nine additional chains brought online via the blockchain recycling strategy, a unified Spark installer covering all ten chains, Support for the Beacon TUI console for Lynx staking, and the long-awaited ability to stake from a locked, encrypted wallet.

Changes

Critical Wallet Balance Fix — Phantom UTXO Cleanup

  • Resolved the wallet miscalculation error that very rarely occurred for stakers holding very large UTXO values
  • Extends the v26.4.40 fix for abandoned transactions in orphaned blocks with inline detection and cleanup inside BlockDisconnected(), catching phantom UTXOs at the moment of orphaning rather than waiting for a sweep
  • Retained the scheduled phantom-UTXO cleanup task as a layered safety net to catch anything the inline path misses
  • Added a manual cleanup command that prunes, rebuilds txindex, rebuilds the coins database, and marks wallet state dirty — useful for nodes that joined the network on a pre-fix build
  • All stakers should update to ensure accurate balance reporting under all conditions

Storage Network Expansion — 9 Additional Chains

  • Published genesis blocks for 9 additional chains, bringing the in-band storage network to 10 chains operating in coordination
  • Expands the per-chain 500 GB/year storage ceiling by 9x across the new chains, dramatically increasing total annual storage capacity available to Clevver and direct integrators
  • New chains follow the blockchain recycling architecture: existing UTXO sets preserved, consensus migrated to Lynx's LWMA Proof of Stake, data storage capability added at the protocol layer
  • Hardcoded daemon seed nodes for all 10 chains, eliminating dependency on external DNS seeds and improving cold-start reliability across the network

Spark Installer — Unified Deployment

  • New Spark installer provides a single deployment path for the Lynx chain and all 9 additional chains
  • Streamlines node provisioning across the expanded network — operators can stand up one chain or all ten with the same tool
  • Compatible with the existing AMD and ARM platform matrix (Debian 11/12, Ubuntu 22.04/24.04, AlmaLinux 8/9, Rocky Linux 8/9, and Raspberry Pi via the Lynx ISO)

Encrypted Wallet Staking

  • Staking-only mode for encrypted wallets, ported from the Particl reference implementation
  • walletpassphrase "passphrase" 0 true now unlocks the wallet for staking only — the wallet can stake indefinitely while remaining unable to send coins without a separate full unlock
  • Significantly improves the security posture for stakers running unattended nodes, who previously had to choose between encrypting their wallet and earning staking rewards
  • Full unlock for sending remains available via walletpassphrase "passphrase" <timeout> false

New Staking Toggle Command

  • Added setstaking true|false to enable or disable staking at runtime without a daemon restart
  • setstaking with no argument returns current staking status
  • Useful for maintenance windows, burn operations, UTXO splits, and any workflow that needs to briefly avoid coinstake races

Enhanced Logging Subsystem

  • Suppressed noisy log categories that previously dominated debug output (staking-thread chatter, routine tip updates) — debug logs are now meaningfully readable without external filtering
  • Added new log categories for tracing: debug=phantom exposes phantom-UTXO detection and cleanup events, and debug=walletdb traces wallet database activity for correlation with on-chain events
  • Multiple categories are enabled by adding one debug=<category> line per category in lynx.conf (the comma-separated form is not supported)
  • Improved diagnostic coverage of staking operations and balance calculations

RPC Improvements

  • Fixed duplicate txids in listreceivedbyaddress — the RPC now correctly deduplicates output and returns one entry per unique receipt
  • Burn function cleanup — refactored the OP_RETURN burn path for predictable behavior under PoS conditions, including correct handling of coinstake races and improved value-encoding verification before signing
  • Phantom block detection integrated into RPC diagnostic output for operator visibility
  • Help documentation cleanup across RPC commands — corrected stale references, removed Bitcoin-Core-specific language that no longer applied to Lynx, and tightened parameter descriptions

Data Storage Enhancements

  • Maximum asset upload size increased to 50 MB, up from 25 MB — supports larger single-asset storage operations from Clevver and other storage clients
  • Storage subsystem tuned for the larger payload size with appropriate timeout adjustments at the node ingress layer

Bitcoin Core Upgrades

  • Additional security patches and improvements ingested from upstream Bitcoin Core v26
  • Continued protocol compatibility and peer-to-peer networking improvements

How to Update

  1. Backup your wallet.dat file (Critical for stakers!)
  2. Download the appropriate binary for your system
  3. Stop your current node gracefully
  4. Replace your binary files, typically located in /usr/local/bin/
  5. Restart your daemon
  6. Verify wallet balance accuracy after restart

For new chains: Download the Spark installer to deploy any of the 10 chains. Detailed documentation at https://docs.getlynx.io/.

🪙 Staking the New Chains

Interested in helping secure the expanded network? Stakers who would like to participate on any of the 9 new chains can reach out to the development team on the Lynx Discord to request coins to begin staking. We're actively onboarding stakers across the new chains and are happy to get you provisioned.

Valuation: Coins on the newly native chains are valued at 100 Lynx to 1 of the respective chain. Circulating supply on these chains is extremely low, so each coin carries proportionally high value — a small allocation goes a long way toward establishing a meaningful staking position. Non-native chain exchange rates to be determined.

Join us at the official Lynx Discord and send a message to the development team with the chain(s) you'd like to stake on, and we'll follow up with next steps.

⚠️ Important Notes

  • This update is CRITICAL for all staking users due to the phantom-UTXO wallet balance fix
  • Previous versions may display incorrect balances after extended staking on rare occasions involving very large UTXOs
  • Non-staking users are also encouraged to update for improved stability and the expanded RPC surface
  • Stakers running encrypted wallets should review the new staking-only unlock flow and update their startup procedures accordingly
  • Enhanced logging can be enabled for troubleshooting via debug=phantom and debug=walletdb entries in lynx.conf

Blockchain Continuity

Through this transition, the entire +11-year blockchain history remains fully intact and preserved. All previous wallet versions remain compatible with this release, though updating is strongly recommended for accurate balance reporting and access to the new encrypted-wallet staking capability.

Interface

This release is designed for command-line interface (CLI) operations only. The Qt graphical user interface is not included in this version.
