I am here to report a bug - I went down a rabbithole and found a units conflation issue

What do you want to change?

When you approve me,I'll describe a bug I found - no AI. It's a units conflation issue that is causing spurious scrolling across the many computers and displays I own. I have searched the closed and opened issues and it has not been reported. I have seen related discussions but no root cause analysis. I have done the RCA.

I am a lifelong programmer with 30+ years experience. I did not use AI to write this.

Why do you want to make this change?

This issue provably affects users -- I can see misconfiguration in distros to mitigate its effect.
