Upgrading

There is nothing to migrate manually. Install the release archive or run Update_All as usual. Existing settings, resume state, favourites, gamelists, media, themes, custom images and external-storage paths are preserved. Older installations still move automatically from Scripts/.degauss to Scripts/.config/degauss on first start.

Gamelist remains the default game-data source on every existing and new installation. The new artwork-database source and frontend keyboard shortcut are opt-in.

New

  • Built-in ScreenScraper. Scrape one game, the current folder, one system or every supported system directly on MiSTer. Images and metadata have separate missing-only, replace and off policies. System and whole-card jobs skip unresolved games and continue; a single-game job can preview multiple matches, choose the correct one or edit the search title. Progress, account limits, cancellation, retryable failures, safe gamelist writes and completion results remain visible throughout.
  • MiSTer Game Artwork Databases. Supported systems can use compatible local artwork databases installed by Update_All or Downloader, including databases on SD, USB and network storage. Switching back to Gamelist is immediate and never modifies the existing gamelist or media.
  • Gallery and Multi list views. Gallery fits more artwork on screen with an outlined selection and temporary title. Multi list shows two columns and scrolls only the selected long title.
  • A different view for every place. Categories, category system lists, system roots and individual folders can each retain their own view while the global View setting remains the default elsewhere.
  • On-device theme editor. Start from any installed theme, preview changes immediately, use the continuous colour picker or exact hexadecimal values, swap colour roles, configure logo colour mixing and theme-default text, then save a new theme. Themes created by the editor can also be deleted with confirmation.
  • Three more built-in themes. Green Mono, Modern and Neon join Amber, Mono and Blue-Orange. Themes may now specify a default font without breaking older theme files that do not contain one.
  • Custom category, system and folder images. Choose from shipped or user-added images for master categories, Favourites, systems and folders, and clear a custom choice to restore the normal behaviour.
  • Optional return-to-Frontend keyboard shortcut. The packaged MiSTer_Degauss Main build adds System → Frontend shortcut below the existing Frontend action. It is Off by default and captures a physical keyboard key without changing existing controller bindings.
  • Hold X favourite shortcut. An optional, default-Off setting opens the normal favourite-folder chooser after holding X for one second, or removes the selected game when it is already a favourite. The shortcut does nothing in the master Favourites system.
  • Artwork scale factor. Keep the existing framebuffer fit or correct browse artwork for a physical 4:3 or 16:9 display. System/category logos and the screensaver remain unchanged.

Fixed

  • Jump to letter skips the favourites block at the top of a mixed list and targets the normal list instead. The master Favourites system keeps its previous behaviour.
  • A view selected for one place no longer changes the global view or follows navigation into other folders. (#33)
  • Left and right now move ordered Options values in the expected direction and never activate action rows such as rebuild or reset. (#34)
  • Existing and older saved layouts, theme files, favourites and gamelists retain their previous meanings.

Documentation

The README now includes the complete scraper and artwork-database workflows, theme creation and submission guidance, per-place views, custom images, the frontend shortcut, external alternatives for creating gamelists, the official website, the 0.4.0 video and a new 26-image gallery.
