I have just started GitButler and wondering if there are any plans to support GitHub Copilot as Ai provider or if there is a workaround to get it working with GitHub Copilot? At the moment there is no option for GitHub Copilot in the Gui...

With #12626 , Copilot might be indirectly support, but that feature didn't land yet.

From what I can tell, supporting Copilot directly is not currently planned.

Here is the options that are currently supported. Still no Copilot.

If we could make GitButler as a VS Code extension you get to use the vscode.lm.tools interface in the Extension API to call the chosen Copilot LM to give a response.

This is how Git extensions can generate commit messages or a database extension can get constructed SQL from a scheme of a connected database without worrying about all the LLM plumbing. If they are part of the Extension Ecosystem.

Thanks for sharing. I don't think, however, that we will ever be able to use the VS Code ecosystem directly.

Unless, of course, it's a complete reimplementation of GitButler in TS, and not too many months ago something like this would have sounded hilarious 😅.

Another option that might be better suited for us could be to reuse the Zed agent integration, which itself supports a lot of different agents and LLMs.

For now though, I don't think there's any plans to make changes to this portion of the code.
