Fortran Free Form

Hi all,

is there any way to enforce that linguist and hence GitHub associate the file extension .f with Fortran free source form?

Yes. Use an override for force the language.

I tested two different version of .gitattributes containing either

*.f linguist-language=Fortran

or, respectively,

*.f linguist-language=Fortran[[:space:]]Free[[:space:]]Form.

The first version did not change anything. The second caused the syntax highlighting to disappear. However, when I opened the in-place editor, the syntax highlighting was correct in all cases.

I guess the first version just reproduced the default, i.e., *.f is assumed to be in Fortran fixed source form. The second version seems to cut this association, but fails to identify it as Fortran Free Form as listed in languages.yml. It would be great if you or somebody else had an idea how to fix this. However, if not, I can live with it.

You need to replace any whitespace in the language name with hyphens for it to work properly. ie. Fortran-Free-Form
