This alpha improves the native workspace interactions and makes the local agent runtime more reliable when RTK is installed.

What changed

• Adds native file-tree context actions for creating, copying, moving, renaming, duplicating, revealing, and sending files to Trash.
• Lets users drop file paths into the integrated terminal with shell-safe quoting.
• Shows input, output, cache, and total token values when the provider reports them.
• Keeps the chat's transient thinking indicator from remaining below streamed assistant commentary or a final answer.
• Ensures RTK can invoke the resolved Homebrew rg binary even when a GUI-launched application has a limited PATH.

Validation

• swift test --build-system native: passed after the RTK and chat-transcript regressions were corrected. Optional visual-preview and ast-grep checks remain skipped when their opt-in dependency or environment flag is absent.
• git diff --check: passed.

This alpha release improves native agent runtime context handling and syncs the vendored AgentRunKit snapshot used by FS Code.

What changed

• Uses the provider catalog maximum context window when available, instead of showing a smaller fallback window.
• Adds proactive context compaction in the native agent runtime before a conversation grows past its configured context threshold.
• Persists compacted conversation history and emits a context-compacted event so the UI can represent that the history was rewritten intentionally.
• Syncs the vendored AgentRunKit snapshot to 6.1.0, including text-to-speech stitching and loudness updates.
• Keeps FS Code local AgentRunKit context compactor visibility patch documented in the vendored upstream notes.
• Updates the release version to 0.1.7 alpha, build 8.

Validation

• swift test --build-system native: 236 XCTest tests passed, 3 skipped; 33 Swift Testing tests passed.

• Adds shared UI helpers for icon-only buttons, spacing, radius, and text styling so touched views stay more consistent.
• Updates the assistant composer immediately after send events so the input state tracks the conversation without waiting for the debounced full refresh.

• Repairs persisted native-agent histories that contain an interrupted tool call followed by later user messages, moving the synthetic interruption result back beside its tool call so the next provider request stays valid.
• Rechecks repaired history when resuming a thread and before starting a new turn, preventing stale in-memory history from surfacing as a malformed provider request.
• Reports safe, specific categories for direct transport failures and malformed history errors without exposing provider bodies, internal tool IDs, or credential-adjacent details.

• Development commands can now be launched by bare executable name, resolving against safe absolute PATH entries and fixed system fallbacks instead of requiring an absolute path.
• Command launch failures now report a safe system diagnostic in agent tool output, including the executable and errno, instead of a generic failure message.
• Project-local executable paths are not searched implicitly, including through PATH symlinks into the project root.
• The workspace sidebar now uses the same rectangular split-pane treatment as the assistant panel.

First public preview of a native macOS code editor built around visible, editable agent instructions and project-scoped AI connections.

Download

• macOS 15 or later.
• Apple Silicon (arm64) build. Intel binaries are not included in this release.
• Extract the ZIP and move FS Code.app to Applications.
• Signed with Developer ID Application: Daniel Lares. Notarized by Apple, with the notarization ticket stapled to the application.
• SHA-256 checksum is provided in SHA256SUMS.txt.

Included

Project library and multiple project windows; native text editing and lexical highlighting; integrated terminal; project TODOs; Markdown/SVG/image previews and Quick Look; deterministic Agent Context; Build/Plan/Ask with editable prompts and project plans; native AgentRunKit conversations; ChatGPT sign-in; audited AI edits, file links, and restore controls.

Known limits

This is an alpha. Preserve backups and review agent changes. UTF-8 editing is limited to 5 MiB per file; agent edit tools have smaller limits. Highlighting is lexical. The provider API-key path has not yet been validated against a live paid API account. Claude OAuth, project MCP, Git graph, plugins, automatic RTK integration, agent shell execution, and subagents are not part of this release. The Sparkle update feed is not enabled.

There is no FS Code analytics collector. Connected AI requests send prompts, supplied context, and tool results to the selected provider. See the privacy documentation before working with confidential material.

Validation

178 XCTest tests, with one skipped and zero failures, plus 33 Swift Testing tests passed for this release preparation. Native UI spot checks included project-window switching, binary/PDF previews, and plan Preview/Code switching. This is not a complete cross-version or accessibility certification.
