v2.5.0 Release Notes
Released on Friday, October 2, 2026. This release ships a complete visual redesign of the web app, a security upgrade that resolves every open Dependabot alert (two of them critical), and a set of drafting improvements: GitHub-style previews for generated Markdown, live status while the AI writes, and a clearer template editor. Gitset is now licensed under Apache-2.0.
Design
-
A complete redesign of gitset.dev. A new design system replaces the previous one end to end:
- graphite surfaces and a single teal accent;
- Geist and Geist Mono type, soft layered elevation and a rounder radius scale;
- light and dark themes built from the same tokens.
The header, footer, every page, the dashboard and all nine tools were rebuilt on it, with no change to how any feature works.
-
Responsive at every size.
- On phones, modals open as bottom sheets, the template editor goes full screen, and dense rows stack instead of squeezing.
- On tablets, the dashboard uses a two-column layout.
- One container width keeps the header, the footer and the content aligned on wide screens.
-
Consistent tool layout. Every tool shares one structure:
- the composer and the result as twin cards;
- a segmented Composer / Manager switch;
- clearer version history and empty states;
- Manager lists (Issues, PRs, Releases) restyled to match.
Features
- Edit / Preview for generated Markdown. READMEs, pull request descriptions, issue bodies and release notes now have GitHub-style Edit and Preview tabs. The preview renders with GitHub's own palette, follows the light/dark theme, and runs in a sandboxed frame, so HTML in a draft can never execute scripts.
- Live status while the AI drafts. PR Maker, Issue Crafter, Release Manager, README Generator and Commit Generator now show a rotating status line during generation instead of a static spinner.
- A clearer template editor.
- Starting points are always visible, with your saved default listed first.
- The editor shows what is currently loaded and whether it has unsaved changes.
- The two actions are now explained: Use template applies it to this draft; Save as default stores it in your account.
- Choosing labels, rebuilt. The label manager is now built around choosing the labels for the issue or pull request you are drafting. (#59)
- Live free-models banner. The home page lists the OpenRouter models you can use for free right now, refreshed daily, with a one-click path to set one up. (#57)
Security
- All Dependabot alerts resolved: 2 critical, 25 high, 12 medium, 5 low.
- Astro 6 → 7.3.5 fixes remote code execution through image optimization, cross-site scripting issues, and an authorization bypass.
- @astrojs/node 10 → 11.1.6 fixes a crash on a malformed
Hostheader and an internal-path check bypass. - Patched transitive dependencies: devalue, fast-uri, nanoid, sharp, svgo, postcss, js-yaml and smol-toml.
- Runtime requirement: Node.js 22.12 or newer.
Fixes
- Refined release notes are no longer truncated, and changelog links open in a new tab. (#61)
- Release Manager now parses fetch responses defensively. (#55)
- White-on-teal buttons that were unreadable in dark mode now use the correct contrast.
- Long changelog entries no longer overflow on phones.
License
- Gitset is now licensed under Apache-2.0 (previously MPL-2.0).
