Voice Assistant PE and Amazon Echo Merged
The Voice-Assistant-EE (A.K.A Voice Assistant Echo Edition*)
Do you have one of these?
Great functionality with Home Assistant, completely local or cloud connected as you choose, low power, simple setup, reliable, but alas, the sound quality is pretty much only good for voice interaction. Music is all but out of the question.
Do you have one of these?
The Amazon Echo Dot (3rd generation) has great sound in a very small package. But it needs Amazon cloud service and all that goes with it – and very difficult to use as a media player from Home Assistant.
So, why not pick the best of BOTH and build a Voice Assistant Echo Edition (*unofficial, tongue-in-cheek designation)?
The Echo has a fairly well tuned speaker cavity formed from cast metal. All we need to do is disassemble the Echo, extract the speaker and cavity, remove the Voice Assistant PCB from it’s case, 3D print a new enclosure and put it all back together.
See the WIKI for a step by step procedure to get the best of both worlds and download the 3D Printer files for the printed parts!
