it would ease the user account maintenance if it would be possible to automatically deactivate user accounts after certain amount of inactivity / from last login.

I think you can it by a custom cron script through the api or editing the database diretly.

Yeah, an optional admin setting for an inactivity threshold would work well. Auto-deactivate after X days of no login, configurable by instance admins. Helps with both maintenance and security. I'd like to take this on if the maintainers are interested in accepting it. Happy to start working on an implementation.
