GOAT 0.1.3 (Kid)
GOAT 0.1.3 makes local-model work easier to set up, easier to follow and more dependable over a long session. It brings model management into the app, keeps large conversations responsive and gives coding workflows clearer recovery when a model or engine has a difficult turn.
This release keeps oMLX 0.6.4 as the qualified baseline.
Your models, in one place
- A new Models area in Settings shows what the active engine can run, with favourites, capability filters, compatibility details and a direct model picker.
- Model menus now put the current model and favourites first. Clear icons distinguish coding, vision, multimodal, reasoning and general models.
- GOAT can apply bounded context and sampling guidance for a model while respecting engine facts and your explicit overrides. Response diagnostics show where the effective settings came from.
Long work stays usable
- Conversations can compact when they run out of context, and
/compactlets you start that process yourself. The original messages remain available for recovery and review. - Large transcripts no longer ask the interface to lay out an entire oversized response at once. Earlier and Later navigation keeps the full conversation reachable, while your reading position stays steady as new output arrives.
- Very large responses and reasoning remain selectable and copyable. Copying the full source preserves Markdown, code fences, Unicode and whitespace.
- A saved Custom engine stays selected when it is temporarily offline, so GOAT reports the real connection state instead of quietly switching to another discovered service.
More dependable coding conversations
- GOAT can retry a transient engine failure when no output has arrived. Once a response has started, it will not silently replay the turn.
- Printed or malformed tool markup is treated as text and never executed as a command.
- File reads can return more useful plain text, search supports globs and regular expressions, and independent read-only tool calls can run together. Edits and commands remain ordered and permission-controlled.
- Approved Pen commands use the selected Xcode toolchain and report clearer permission failures while remaining confined to the Pen.
- oMLX connections show clearer model, memory, queue and output-limit information when the server provides it. A response stopped at the effective output limit offers Continue response.
- Stats now separates server-reported decode speed from GOAT's received-output estimate and records bounded timing diagnostics without saving prompt or response content.
Testing and developer experience
- Tests are organised by the domain that owns the behaviour, including Bleet, Paddock, Pens, Memory and Inference. Website checks are separate from macOS app and embedded-preview tests.
- Focused commands such as
make test MODULE=Bleetandmake test MODULE=Paddockrun the relevant package and hosted coverage together. The release gate rejects empty test selections. GOAT.xcodeprojis maintained source. A fresh checkout can open, build, debug and test in Xcode without regenerating the project or installing XcodeGen.- Shared schemes, domain test plans and the app's dependency lock are committed.
make build-signedcreates a hardened, timestamped Developer ID build and verifies its publisher, team and release entitlements.
Installation and upgrade
GOAT 0.1.3 requires Apple Silicon and macOS 26 or later. Download the signed, notarized latest release with its manifest and checksums.
An ordinary upgrade replaces the app without resetting chats, engine profiles, memory, permissions or Pens. Finish active work before quitting GOAT to install the update, and keep a backup of local data.
Qualification and known limits
The official Release-channel package is built from the immutable v0.1.3 source. The release workflow verifies the complete Release suite, website and docs, Developer ID publisher identity, hardened runtime, notarization, stapling and artifact checksums. See the release metadata for the exact source revision and artifact hashes.
The previously reported difference between a 37 tok/s server reading and a 2-3 tok/s live display has not been reproduced. This release makes those measurements distinct and easier to diagnose; it does not claim an engine-speed improvement. Model and tool results apply to the tested configurations, including stable oMLX 0.6.4, rather than every compatible server or workload.
GOAT 0.1.1 (Kid)
GOAT 0.1.1 (Kid), build 1353 is a maintenance update for the native Mac workspace.
What changed
- Fixed sidebar labels disappearing at maximum width. The preferred width is now 300 points, with a 600-point maximum.
- Reduced repeated chat layout work during updates.
- Added a storage-location tree in Settings → General → Manage.
- Added immediate reset of the listed appearance and general preferences, preserving chats, connections, memory and permissions.
- Added recoverable automatic uninstall with Partial and All presets, explicit removal choices, cancellation and a private recovery folder. Removal waits for GOAT to close normally.
- Refined the Retina Finder installer with a real build badge, standard Applications-folder symbol, separate CLI tile, aligned labels and document-style Licence icon.
Install or upgrade
Requires Apple Silicon and macOS 26 or later, plus a compatible model engine. Download GOAT-0.1.1.dmg, open it and drag GOAT into Applications. The app and disk image are signed by Joseph Blythe and notarized by Apple.
Finish active chats and command jobs before quitting to replace an installed app. An ordinary upgrade preserves your data and does not require uninstalling or resetting GOAT. Keep a backup of important local data. The optional CLI is inside CLI Tools; notices are in Licence.
Save the DMG, release-metadata.json and SHA256SUMS.txt together, then run:
shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS.txtBoth entries should report OK.
Validation and known limitations
The maintainer accepted the tested maintenance candidate. This official Release-channel package was rebuilt from the same source content. Full Release verification, Developer ID signing, notarization/stapling, mounted-package validation, checksums and Gatekeeper assessment passed.
Fullscreen sidebar compositing on macOS 26, model-template compatibility, non-interactive command boundaries and broader service/accessibility/performance qualification remain documented limitations. This maintenance release does not complete M7 or change the release line to Yearling.

GOAT 0.1 (Kid)
GOAT is a native AI workspace for Mac, built around local models and permissions you control. Kid is the first downloadable release: 0.1.0, build 1343.
What you can do
- Start with guided engine setup, then chat with streaming responses, reasoning disclosure, model controls and generation statistics.
- Organise project folders, instructions, memory and appearance in Pens.
- Read and edit project files, run scoped commands and review actions before granting permission.
- Use Lead to guide an active task between actions, or Stop to interrupt it.
- Preview supported HTML, SVG, Markdown and Mermaid output in the Paddock, alongside its source.
- Connect MCP tools and optional Hindsight memory, with explicit connection controls.
- Use the optional local Hitch CLI for supported chat operations.
Install
Requires an Apple Silicon Mac running macOS 26 or later, plus a compatible model engine. GOAT does not include model weights or run inference itself. Model memory requirements depend on the model and engine you choose.
Download GOAT-0.1.0.dmg below, open it and drag GOAT into Applications. The official app is signed by Joseph Blythe and notarized by Apple. On first launch, GOAT opens Settings → Engine with no saved connections. Choose Add Engine, enter your running engine’s actual endpoint, test the connection and save it. The first saved engine becomes active automatically. Existing connections are preserved when upgrading.
Getting started covers setup. The DMG includes the optional goat CLI and licence notices. For checksum verification, save the DMG, SHA256SUMS.txt and release-metadata.json in the same folder, then run:
shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS.txtBoth entries should report OK. The manifest records the source commit, build identity and artifact checksums.
Known limitations
- At maximum sidebar width, items can disappear while the plus buttons remain visible. Avoid the maximum width until issue #6 is fixed. A wider initial sidebar is also planned.
- Some Devstral conversions include a chat template that rejects a user follow-up after a tool result. This can affect Lead and recovery. Update the engine/model template or use a compatible model.
- A model can request another write after you deny one. Each unapproved write remains blocked; use Stop to end the turn.
- Fullscreen sidebar compositing can show a dark area on macOS 26. Windowed mode avoids it.
- Native commands are non-interactive and scoped to the Pen. Interactive setup, detached services and tools that depend on unrelated host configuration may not work.
- Model capabilities vary. A listed model is not proof of working tools, vision or reasoning controls. Broader service compatibility, accessibility coverage and long-workload profiling remain ongoing.
Developer ID signature, notarization, mounted-package and Gatekeeper checks passed for this exact package. The maintainer tested the candidate on a separate Mac and accepted the build and first-engine guidance. Optional integrations and accessibility combinations have not all been individually qualified.
See known issues for current limitations and report an issue with your build, macOS version and engine/model details. Remove private data from logs and screenshots. Report security problems through the security policy.
GOAT has no built-in analytics or automatic update checks. Your engine and connected services determine where processing happens; read Privacy for the boundaries. Code, documentation and examples use MIT; artwork has separate terms.
