- [^add-external-link-via] shipped without its definition in google#2372, so readers see the raw marker; the sentence stands alone. Site-wide scan found no other orphan footnotes; markdownlint cannot catch this class (MD052 covers reference links/images only; footnotes are outside its rule vocabulary)
