TreeLevel Tools 0.5.1 — Windows

🌐 This page in your language — the TreeLevel site opens it in the language of your browser. Or unfold yours below: Français · Deutsch · Italiano · Español · Português (Brasil) · Русский · 简体中文 · 日本語 · 한국어 · हिन्दी.

The engine that runs the Monte Carlo generators for TreeLevel 1.4 on Windows (and still 1.3). It is installed by unfolding the archive into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs — no installer, nothing in the registry. To update a previous version: close TreeLevel, then unfold the archive in the same place, replacing the files.

Choose the archive for your machine: arm64 for a Copilot+ PC or an ARM tablet, x64 everywhere else. When in doubt, the x64 one also works on ARM, under emulation.

What the archive contains: treelevel-tools.exe, which TreeLevel launches; treelevel-engine.exe, the engine that writes each generator's card and runs it; the Pythia 8 module compiled for this architecture; CREDITS.md. Herwig, Sherpa, WHIZARD and CalcHEP go through the container image, which requires Docker Desktop:

docker pull ghcr.io/gpasa/treelevel-tools:latest

Nothing else to do: TreeLevel itself creates an ephemeral container for each job. Docker Desktop must be running when TreeLevel starts; the image's generators then appear, marked “(Docker)”.

The engine has no window. TreeLevel launches it, whenever needed. If you double-click treelevel-tools.exe, Windows SmartScreen warns of an unrecognised app — the engine is not signed — and, once past the warning, a console shows its usage and closes again. This is normal, and harmless.

What changes

  • The host asks for image 0.5.0. It is published and :latest points to it; the Windows engine looks first for ghcr.io/gpasa/treelevel-tools:0.5.0, then :latest, as before. With image 0.5.0, the “Tout faire tourner dans l'image Docker” box also gives the interaction zone (the image announces spaceTimeGenerators).
  • To benefit from it with Docker: docker pull ghcr.io/gpasa/treelevel-tools:latest (or :0.5.0) replaces image 0.4.0.
  • Nothing else moves: same Pythia driver and same job keys as win-0.5.0; compatible with TreeLevel 1.3 and 1.4.

docker pull ghcr.io/gpasa/treelevel-tools:latest

docker pull ghcr.io/gpasa/treelevel-tools:latest

Was sich ändert

docker pull ghcr.io/gpasa/treelevel-tools:latest

È TreeLevel a lanciarlo, a ogni necessità.

What changes

  • The interaction zone, at the femtometre. For TreeLevel 1.4, the Pythia driver can place each partonic interaction in the overlap of the two hadrons and each hadron where its string broke (job key spaceTime: PartonVertex:setVertex, Fragmentation:setVertices). It writes, for each parton, its colour flow and its Pythia status, and for each particle born away from its vertex, its own birthplace — which the enlarged cross-section and the 3D view of TreeLevel 1.4 draw. This is the generator's model, nothing measured.
  • A single offset of the luminous region. With these positions, Pythia shifted the hadrons twice; the driver now places the event itself, by a single vector. Without the key, nothing changes.
  • The engine says what it can do: treelevel-tools capabilities announces spaceTimeGenerators (native Pythia when its driver answers “spacetime”, and whatever the image announces). TreeLevel 1.4 only shows the “positions in the interaction zone” box when it is listed there.
  • Compatible with TreeLevel 1.3: a job without the spaceTime key runs exactly as with 0.4.0.
  • Docker image 0.5 follows: until then, :latest is image 0.4.0, and Herwig, Sherpa, WHIZARD and CalcHEP run in it as before; the interaction zone goes through this archive's native Pythia.
  • The same engine as mac-0.5.0: same Pythia driver (Backends/pythia/main.cpp), same job keys, same attributes written.

Was sich ändert

TreeLevel Tools 0.5.0 — macOS

TreeLevel Tools 0.5.0

🌐 This page in your language — the TreeLevel site opens it in the language of your browser. Or unfold yours below: Français · Deutsch · Italiano · Español · Português (Brasil) · Русский · 简体中文 · 日本語 · 한국어 · हिन्दी.

The GPL tools that TreeLevel cannot contain, on your machine — nothing leaves it. TreeLevel is sandboxed and
launches no program; this package is what is allowed to run them.

New in 0.5.0

  • Pythia 8 places the particles in the interaction zone when TreeLevel 1.4 asks for it (the option
"positions in the interaction zone"): where each hadron is born, at the femtometre, the colour flow and the
status of the partons, and a single offset of the luminous region for the whole event. TreeLevel shows it at
the femtometre, in the cuts and in 3D.
  • TreeLevel 1.3 asks for none of this and receives the same events as with 0.4.0; same generators, same versions.
  • Tried on an Apple Silicon Mac and on an Intel iMac: each bundled generator runs a real job.

Install

  • For Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, macOS 13 or later.
  • Drag TreeLevel Tools.app into /Applications and launch it once.
  • Four generators are already inside, nothing else to install:
    • Pythia 8 and Herwig 7 dress TreeLevel's events between two leptons: shower, hadronisation, decays.
Pythia 8 also drives the Machine source: two beams, an energy, and everything the collision produces.
    • Sherpa 3 and CalcHEP 3 compute the process described by the diagram themselves.
  • TreeLevel then offers them in the Generation workspace.

The cards of all generators are written by the same C++ engine as inside the Docker image: the same job gives the
same card on the Mac and on Linux.

WHIZARD 3 is not included: it compiles each process with gfortran, which neither macOS nor Xcode provides.
Two ways to have it, to tick in the TreeLevel Tools window:

  • the Docker image ghcr.io/gpasa/treelevel-tools:latest, which carries the five tools; when ticked, it runs
    all jobs, and the generators bundled here stay silent;
  • your own installation (MacPorts, Homebrew), if you have one.

Neither is used by default: out of the box only the generators bundled here are offered, so that the same document
gives the same result on two machines.

Signed and notarised by Apple. Checksums in SHA256SUMS.txt.

    tous les travaux, et les générateurs livrés ici se taisent ;

TreeLevel läuft in

Neu in 0.5.0

      was die Kollision erzeugt.

    alle Aufträge aus, und die hier mitgelieferten Generatoren schweigen;

Prüfsummen in SHA256SUMS.txt.

TreeLevel è in sandbox e

Installare

  • TreeLevel li propone allora nello spazio Generazione.

    tutti i lavori, e i generatori forniti qui tacciono;

Pythia module for TreeLevel on iPad

🌐 This page in your language — the TreeLevel site opens it in the language of your browser. Or unfold yours below: Français · Deutsch · Italiano · Español · Português (Brasil) · Русский · 简体中文 · 日本語 · 한국어 · हिन्दी.

Module version: 0.5.1 — Pythia 8.318, compiled to WebAssembly with the common driver of
TreeLevel Tools 0.5.1. This page always keeps the same name: TreeLevel on iPad (1.4 and later) takes the latest
version from it, reads its number in module.json and shows it in its settings, offers the update when a newer
version is published, and checks every file against the fingerprint that module.json gives for it. It runs the
module in a web view, without sending anything anywhere.

The GPL tools that TreeLevel cannot contain, on your machine — nothing leaves it.
TreeLevel is sandboxed and launches no program; this package is what is allowed to run them.

  • For Apple Silicon and Intel Macs, macOS 13 or later.
  • Drag TreeLevel Tools.app into /Applications and launch it once.
  • Four generators are already inside, nothing else to install:
    • Pythia 8 and Herwig 7 dress TreeLevel's events between two leptons: shower,
hadronisation, decays. Pythia 8 also drives the Machine source: two beams, an energy,
      and everything the collision produces.
    • Sherpa 3 and CalcHEP 3 compute the process described by the diagram themselves.
  • TreeLevel then offers them in the Generation workspace.

The cards of all generators are written by the same C++ engine as inside the Docker image: the
same job gives the same card on the Mac and on Linux.

WHIZARD 3 is not included: it compiles each process with gfortran, which neither macOS nor Xcode provides.
Two ways to have it, to tick in the TreeLevel Tools window:

  • the Docker image ghcr.io/gpasa/treelevel-tools:latest, which carries the five tools; when ticked, it runs
    all jobs, and the generators bundled here stay silent;
  • your own installation (MacPorts, Homebrew), if you have one.

Neither is used by default: out of the box only the generators bundled here are offered, so that the same
document gives the same result on two machines.

Signed and notarised by Apple. Checksums in SHA256SUMS.txt.

    tous les travaux, et les générateurs livrés ici se taisent ;

    alle Aufträge aus, und die hier mitgelieferten Generatoren schweigen;

TreeLevel Tools 0.4.0 — Windows

🌐 This page in your language — the TreeLevel site opens it in the language of your browser. Or unfold yours below: Français · Deutsch · Italiano · Español · Português (Brasil) · Русский · 简体中文 · 日本語 · 한국어 · हिन्दी.

The engine that runs the Monte Carlo generators for TreeLevel 1.3 on Windows.

Herwig, Sherpa, WHIZARD and CalcHEP go through the container image, which requires Docker Desktop:

docker pull ghcr.io/gpasa/treelevel-tools:0.4.0

Nothing else to do: TreeLevel itself creates an ephemeral container for each job. Docker Desktop must be running when TreeLevel starts; the image's generators then appear, marked “(Docker)”.

The engine has no window. TreeLevel launches it, whenever needed. If you double-click treelevel-tools.exe, Windows SmartScreen warns of an unrecognised app — the engine is not signed — and, once past the warning, a console shows its usage and closes again. This is normal, and harmless.

What changes

  • A single engine for Windows, the Mac and the image. The generators' cards are now written only once, in C++ (Backends/engine), and the same program runs here, on the Mac and in the container. The Windows part now only finds Docker, the image and the Pythia module.
  • “Tout faire tourner dans l'image Docker”, a box in TreeLevel 1.3's Settings. When ticked, the image runs all jobs, Pythia included, and nothing is offered when Docker or the image is missing. When unticked, Pythia runs natively and the rest goes through the image.
  • What the experiment records: TreeLevel 1.3's Machine source chooses a phenomenon — everything the detector sees, scattering by a photon, annihilation into γ*/Z, the W exchanged or produced, boson pairs, jets, photoproduction, soft collisions —, and the engine opens it with the threshold that suits it (Q² for scatterings, p_T for jets).
  • Where each particle was born: the Pythia driver writes the position of the vertices, and the hard process of each event; TreeLevel draws them and filters on them.
  • Pythia 8.318 everywhere, with its tunes (Monash 2013, A14…) translated into Pythia's numbers.
  • Accented paths: a job folder under a user name with accents opens like any other.
  • Removed: the WSL route (Herwig or Sherpa installed by hand in a distribution) — Docker is the intended route.

TreeLevel Tools is under GPL v3 or later (see LICENSE.txt in the archive); each generator keeps its own licence — see CREDITS.md, and below.

docker pull ghcr.io/gpasa/treelevel-tools:0.4.0

docker pull ghcr.io/gpasa/treelevel-tools:0.4.0

Was sich ändert

TreeLevel Tools 0.3.1 — Windows

🌐 This page in your language — the TreeLevel site opens it in the language of your browser. Or unfold yours below: Français · Deutsch · Italiano · Español · Português (Brasil) · Русский · 简体中文 · 日本語 · 한국어 · हिन्दी.

The engine that runs the Monte Carlo generators for TreeLevel on Windows.

What the archive contains: the engine and the Pythia 8 module compiled for this architecture. Herwig, Sherpa, WHIZARD and CalcHEP go through the container image, which requires Docker Desktop:

docker pull ghcr.io/gpasa/treelevel-tools

Nothing else to do: TreeLevel itself creates an ephemeral container for each job. Docker Desktop must be running when TreeLevel starts; the image's generators then appear, marked “(Docker)”.

The engine has no window. TreeLevel launches it, whenever needed. If you double-click treelevel-tools.exe, Windows SmartScreen warns of an unrecognised app — the engine is not signed — and, once past the warning, a console shows its usage and closes again. This is normal, and harmless: you never have to launch it yourself.

Fixes in this version

  • The image pulled without a number is recognised. 0.3.0 only recognised the :0.3.0 tag; yet the command that the package page suggests, and the one everyone types, pulls :latest. The image was on the machine, answered when launched by hand, and yet TreeLevel offered only Pythia. Both tags designate the same image, and both are now recognised.
  • Sherpa on lepton beams, when it runs outside the image: its cross section is no longer inflated by QED initial-state radiation (some fifteen picobarns instead of 3.2 for e⁻e⁺ → b b̄ at 200 GeV). The route that depended on it — Sherpa installed yourself in WSL — will be removed in a coming version: Docker is the intended route.

Five generators, two families

Pythia 8 and Herwig 7 dress the partonic events that TreeLevel gives them: shower, hadronisation, decays.

Sherpa 3, WHIZARD 3 and CalcHEP 3 have no Les Houches reader — they compute the process described by the diagram themselves. The protocol therefore passes them a description of the process (beams, energies, final state, coupling orders) alongside the events.

Measured: e⁻e⁺ → W⁺W⁻ at 200 GeV

engine σ
TreeLevel 19.22 pb
WHIZARD 3.1.6 19.441 ± 0.006 pb
CalcHEP 3.9.2 20.42 pb
Sherpa 3.0.5 18.2 ± 1.1 pb

The differences are choices of coupling scheme, not errors.

Reminder: what 0.3.0 brought

  • Collider mode. The generator receives only the beams and the energy, never a final state: it produces the whole mixture, like a real machine, and TreeLevel then counts the events that carry the signature of the drawn process — which measures a cross section instead of computing it. Six families of channels, including hard QCD, photoproduction and the total cross section. Pythia 8 for now.
  • Two machine configurations combined. A lepton beam enters as a lepton or as the photon flux it radiates, never both in the same draw: the engine draws both and keeps from each the share that its cross section earns it.
  • The reported cross section is the one after the last event. Pythia normalises after its loop; the driver wrote the running estimate, off by 12% over a few hundred events.
  • The program is called TreeLevel Tools, and the executable treelevel-tools.exe.
  • Jobs numbered, timestamped and kept in a list, which TreeLevel reopens; cross section read where each generator puts it.

TreeLevel Tools is under GPL v3 or later (see LICENSE.txt in the archive); each generator keeps its own licence, below.

docker pull ghcr.io/gpasa/treelevel-tools

TreeLevel Tools 0.3.0 — macOS

The GPL tools that TreeLevel cannot contain, on your machine — nothing leaves it.
TreeLevel is sandboxed and launches no program; this package is what is allowed to run them.

  • Drag TreeLevel Tools.app into /Applications and launch it once.
  • Four generators are already inside, nothing else to install:
    • Pythia 8 and Herwig 7 dress TreeLevel's events: shower, hadronisation, decays.
    • Sherpa 3 and CalcHEP 3 have no Les Houches reader: they compute the process described
by the diagram themselves, from a description of the process (beams, energies, final state, coupling orders)
that the protocol passes them alongside the events.
  • TreeLevel then offers them in the Generation workspace.

WHIZARD 3 is not included: it compiles each process with gfortran, which neither macOS nor Xcode provides.
Two ways to have it, both to tick in the TreeLevel Tools window:

  • the Docker image ghcr.io/gpasa/treelevel-tools:0.3.0, which carries the five tools in a consistent environment;
  • your own installation (MacPorts, Homebrew), if you have one.

Neither is used by default: out of the box only the generators bundled here are offered, so that the same
document gives the same result on two machines.

Measured: e⁻e⁺ → W⁺W⁻ at 200 GeV

engine σ
TreeLevel 19.22 pb
WHIZARD 3.1.6 19.441 ± 0.006 pb
CalcHEP 3.9.2 20.42 pb
Sherpa 3.0.5 18.2 ± 1.1 pb

The differences are choices of coupling scheme, not errors.

Also

  • Jobs numbered, timestamped and kept in a list.
  • Library paths of a module corrected at run time: a module compiled elsewhere works without touching its binaries.
  • Cross section read where each generator puts it: C line of Asciiv3, GenCrossSection attribute, or integration table.

The README gives the recipes for compiling the modules on macOS 26, with the four or five pitfalls that the
2026 toolchain holds in store for 2023 code.

  • l'image Docker ghcr.io/gpasa/treelevel-tools:0.3.0, qui porte les cinq outils dans un environnement cohérent ;

  • das Docker-Image ghcr.io/gpasa/treelevel-tools:0.3.0, das die fünf Werkzeuge in einer stimmigen Umgebung enthält;

TreeLevel Tools 0.3.0 — Windows

Superseded by 0.3.1. This one only recognises the image under the :0.3.0 tag; 0.3.1 also accepts :latest, the one that docker pull pulls without a number.

The engine that runs the Monte Carlo generators for TreeLevel on Windows. It is installed by unfolding the archive into %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs — no installer, nothing in the registry.

Choose the archive for your machine: arm64 for a Copilot+ PC or an ARM tablet, x64 everywhere else. When in doubt, the x64 one also works on ARM, under emulation.

What the archive contains: the engine and the Pythia 8 module compiled for this architecture. Herwig, Sherpa, WHIZARD and CalcHEP go through the container image ghcr.io/gpasa/treelevel-tools, which requires Docker. Pull it with its number:

docker pull ghcr.io/gpasa/treelevel-tools:0.3.0

This version of the engine only recognises this tag: an image pulled without a number (hence :latest) is indeed on the machine, but TreeLevel does not offer its generators. Both tags designate the same image; if you already have latest, the command above only adds the tag. Docker Desktop must be running when TreeLevel starts.

Five generators, two families

Pythia 8 and Herwig 7 dress the partonic events that TreeLevel gives them: shower, hadronisation, decays.

Known issue

If Sherpa runs in a personal WSL installation rather than in the image, its cross section on lepton beams comes out too high: QED initial-state radiation stays switched on there, and e⁻e⁺ → b b̄ at 200 GeV gives some fifteen picobarns instead of 3.2. Through the image ghcr.io/gpasa/treelevel-tools, this is fixed.

TreeLevel Tools is under GPL v3 or later (see LICENSE.txt in the archive); each generator keeps its own licence, below.

docker pull ghcr.io/gpasa/treelevel-tools:0.3.0

docker pull ghcr.io/gpasa/treelevel-tools:0.3.0
