Overview

This is not a scheduled release, however I will periodically upload pre-built images produced by boot2deb for reference & testing. While I have tested and run each of these images successfully, they are considered experimental, use at your own risk.

Applicable to all Images

  • Username: debian
  • Password: Board-Specific (See Tables Below)
  • Desktop Environment: None

The C201 & H96 images have nmtui pre-installed for convenient WiFi setup.

Media Acceleration

The RK3588 (Turing RK1) and the RK3576 (H96 Max M9) have hardware acceleration capabilities for encoding, decoding, a variety of media formats. Click to expand below for more info.

ASUS Chromebook C201 (RK3288)

C201 images have the following variations:

  1. Kernel: Debian kernel (can upgrade via apt), Mainline kernel (built from latest source), Linux-Libre (Deblobbed FOSS Kernel).
  2. Boot Firmware: Default (depthcharge - has 16MB partition), Libreboot (32MB partition).

You will find unique combinations of each of the above for a total of 6 different images. If you have flashed Libreboot to your C201, then it is recommended to use one of the Libreboot variants. The 32MB partition has enough extra space for some boot speed enhancements and room for desktop dependencies like plymouth (You can still install desktop environments on the standard images, provided you remove/block plymouth from installing).

You can select a Linux-libre variant for a FOSS kernel. Do note that built-in WiFi will not work with the libre kernel and you will need to provide WiFi/Network Connectivity from an external source.

H96 MAX M9 (RK3576)

Two variants, a minimal base image and another with media acceleration for hardware decoding.

h96-max-m9-forky.img.xz Base image: mainline 7.2.9 kernel, u-boot v2026.07 with the rk3576-display series, NPU core 0 enabled, AIC8800 Wi-Fi/Bluetooth module. No media userspace. DLP7678Yn7VQ
h96-max-m9-media-accel.img.xz Base image plus media-accel-v4l2: ffmpeg-rk with V4L2 request API hardware decode (H.264/HEVC on VDPU383) and the out-of-tree RGA driver with librga2. Encode and scaling run in software. tkxbwN3jvHmj

rk3576-generic-loader-u-boot-rockchip-maskrom.bin Minimal loader: rockusb and ums only; no display or USB host. For flashing a blank board.
h96-max-m9-util-u-boot-rockchip-maskrom.bin Recovery and flashing tool. Stream it into RAM over maskrom with rkdeveloptool db, then write the eMMC from a laptop with ums 0 mmc 0, or pull an image over ethernet with dhcp and tftp. HDMI console with a USB keyboard; never autoboots.

Turing RK1 (RK3588)

Four image variants: A minimal base image, a base image with media acceleration, and two Jellyfin images. The first is Jellyfin installed from Debian's apt repo, configured for rkmpp acceleration. A second image (v4l2request) which installs a patched Jellyfin version to add hardware decoding through v4l2request. Updates to custom images would be manual so are recommended only as proof of concept. Jellyfin is accessible at the RK1 IP address on port 8096.
