The second early build of the new chord editor, for Windows.

It puts chords on the songs of a ProPresenter library, so that ProPresenter shows them on a stage screen. A song is shown as a sheet of its slides, with the chords in bubbles over the words, to be put on, moved and taken off with the mouse and the keys; or as ChordPro text, to be typed in. Chords can go where there are no words too: on an intro's line of chords, and on a blank slide.

It knows a song that the first Windows editor saved (0.9.5 and before, further down this page) by what that editor left in the file: chords written so that ProPresenter shows them twice, and sometimes the wrong key. Such a song is marked in the list, and offers to be put right. And a new song can be made from a ChordPro file.

A personal hobby project, not a product. Nobody supports it and nothing is promised. It changes the files of your ProPresenter library. It has nothing to do with Renewed Vision, the makers of ProPresenter.

New since 0.1.0

  • One of the key's seven chords can be dragged from the strip across the top of the sheet onto a word.
  • The window's title says which version it is: "Pro7 Chord Editor [0.2]".

The ways to put a chord on

On the chord sheet (Ctrl+1). There is one place the next chord goes to, the spot. It follows the pointer, and the arrow keys move it too.

  • Point and press 1 to 7: the key's own chord for that number goes on where the pointer is. The strip across the top of the sheet shows which seven they are.
  • Click one of the seven in the strip: it goes on the spot.
  • Drag one of the seven from the strip onto a word.
  • Press a letter, A to G, or click a word: a small box opens to type any chord in, and offers what the chord might be going to be. Enter keeps it. Tab keeps it and goes on to the next word. A click on another word keeps it and starts the next one there. Esc throws it away.
  • Drag a chord to another word, on any slide. With Ctrl held, it is copied.
  • Delete takes off the chord at the spot.
  • Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V put a line's chords on another line, word for word. Shift+Ctrl+C copies those of a whole group.
  • Ctrl+Z undoes, and Ctrl+Y puts back.

As ChordPro text (Ctrl+2): chords are typed in square brackets among the words, as in [G]Amazing [C]grace. Only the chords can be changed there; the words are the slides'.

In the song's header: the key its chords are written in, and the key ProPresenter is to show them in.

Before you use it

  • Keep a backup of your ProPresenter library.
  • Quit ProPresenter first. Nothing is saved while ProPresenter is running.
  • Try it on a copy first: copy one folder out of ProPresenter's Libraries to somewhere else, and open the copy with Choose Folder.

Every change is saved as it is made; there is no Save. Before the app first changes a song's file it keeps a copy of the file as it was. The copies are under Earlier Versions, in a song's header, and in Settings under Backups.

Starting it the first time

The zip has one file in it, Pro7ChordEditor.exe, and a read-me. Take the file out of the zip and put it where you like. Nothing is installed, and nothing else is needed.

This build is not signed, so Windows cannot say who made it. The first time it is started Windows may stop it and say "Windows protected your PC". To go on:

  1. Click "More info".
  2. Click "Run anyway".

After that it starts like any other program. The first start takes some seconds before its window comes. Do this only for something whose maker you have reason to trust; what this app is made from is in this repository. The same steps are in the read-me inside the zip.

If it finds no library

It reads songs that are kept as .pro files, in the Libraries folder of ProPresenter's own folder, which is in Documents unless it was moved. A copy of ProPresenter that keeps its songs otherwise has none for it to find. Any folder of .pro files can be opened with Choose Folder.

Not yet tried

  • It has been tried by hand only briefly, on one PC.
  • Dragging one of the seven from the strip onto a word had been done only by the app's own tests when this build was made, and by no hand on Windows yet.
  • A song made from a ChordPro file (File, New Song from ChordPro File) has not yet been opened in ProPresenter. Until it has, make one only to try it, and look at it in ProPresenter before it is wanted.

Not in it yet

  • An icon.

What it needs

Windows 10 or 11, on a 64-bit PC. It has been run on Windows 11, on one PC, and nowhere else yet.

There is an early build of the new editor for the Mac on this page too. The Windows editor further down, 0.9.5, is the first one and another program, which this is to replace.
